IDE's typically have 2 channels where you can put 2 drives on one channel for a total of 4 in a computer. See if your computer has a second channel to plug into to. If not, then you will have to use the SATA channel and plug each connection into each channel.
You can always get one of the external shells to put one of your drives in to run it through USB.

if you only have the one channel for your ide then you will need to use the sata hard drive.

then you can plug in the other dvd drive and select the second drive to be the slave. "change the little block on the back of the drive"

p.s. SATA DRIVES WILL NEED A THIRD PARTY DRIVER SOFTWARE FROM THE MANUFACTURER IF YOU ARE RUNNING XP BEFORE INSALLING WINDOWS.

Hi. Most IDE cables have a "master/Slave" connection on the drive end. In other words, two jacks. You may need a cable. I have never used SATA with IDE.
