No opinion can be held as the truth, even from a philosophical standpoint.
To say money is the root of all evil is even philosophically a flawed opinion. The statement implies that there was no evil before money, and historically that is not true.
You must also take into fact that crimes were committed upon others before there was currency in any form. People would steal livestock and crops from those who had more, invasions of other civilizations were for women and supplies, not money.
If you take the bible to be a historically accurate documentation, the first evil commit ed upon another person is the death of Able at the hands of Cain. The explanation given is that Cain is jealous of Able.
Money is a symbol, it represents having more than others which creates jealously.
After the use of gold as currency, kings who had seemingly nothing to fear would murder hundreds of baby boys, from the fear that they would grow and remove them from leadership.
More probable is the statement that jealousy and fear are the roots of evil actions performed upon others.
Where money is a source of jealousy; and sometimes fear of the "power" of those with a lot of money, currency itself does not cause nor commit evil. It is instead one of the excuses as to why acts of evil are committed.

No. Money is not the root of evils. The root lies in human minds and the greed for money. Money has been used for several exceptionally good causes. Money has the quality to make any deed, good or bad, more convenient. The need for money makes people active and productive. To term it as root cause of evil is not justified.

In the time we live may money be the root of the most evils, but in the fact the thing makes money to be the root of evils, is human's Greed. And in fact it is greeding to gain power, and in this case money is the most simplest way to gain power. If there wasn't any greed, not only money, but even gold or other valuable things never could make Evils.

another person asked a similiar. his was does money corrupt people. also he included the same quote you have. so, i'll give a simliar answer.
NO!! the quote is taken from the bible and it reads: the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. money in itself isn't evil. it's just paper and metal. the evil comes about when you desire money so much that there is nothing you won't do to obtain it. when evil occurs, it is due to several defects in one's character, in particular, greed, selfishness, covetousness, theft and murder. these are the evils you speak of.
make sure you quote properly.

That's false, GREED is the root of all evil. Think about it, can't you do good things with money? Sure money might seem like the root but if you think long and hard about it, it's not money it's human greed. Right?

i'd like to say that it has a general truthy feel to it, but i'd also be careful to remember that the proposition sounds much more like a metaphor or firgurative language than a logical premise or conclusion to an argument. designations of true or false would seem to characterize better matters of fact than figurative language, but "money is the root of all evils" does at least seem to serve as a helpful caveat to be wary of the powerful and perhaps dangerous psychological effect people can attribute to money, especially when it is regarded as having a higher level of value than life itself...

It's THE LOVE of money that's supposedly the root of all evil. People always get this one wrong.

Yeah, I think greed is largely responsible for many evils.
