Last December my car was towed away from my apartment complex. (My tags were stolen and apparently it was routine for the towing company to remove illegal cars from the complex parking lot.) The thing is, when I called the towing company, they had no record of ever towing my car. I called all the city impounds and my car wasn't there either. So I called the police and my car was never reported as being towed or impounded. So then I tried to report my car stolen to the police and they said that it was a civil case and that I had to sue the apartment complex. I need some legal advice!!! Has this ever happened to anyone else????

The car was paid off, so I wasn't still paying on it. I did contact the rental office to see if they had my car towed and the manager said yes they did. She gave me the info of the towing company that they use and I called right away. I also called the police right away when i couldn't find my car. I know it's been almost a yr but i was just wondering if somethig could still be done.....

Your car could have been towed by a car thief. Why would you wait almost a year to make a stolen car report? If your apartment complex actually did tow your car from their property you would have to file a civil action against them for return of your property.

Since last December???? This whole picture sounds fishy to me. The police must take a report if your car is stolen. How do you know it was towed?Witnesses?Did you ever report you stolen tag??? Call the apartment complex and ask what towing company they use.....and go from there. Could it have been repossessed? Why did you wait so long?

My advice is for you to contact a lawyer that offers free consultations and go from there. The time frame could be an issue...

If the towing company have no record of it being towed, then how do the police think you can sue. Tell the police that there is no record, and that you wish to report a crime. It has effectively been stolen.
Can you confirm that the towing company did tow it, or has that just been assumed?

Should the towing company have tried to inform the owner that they have towed it, or is that not how it works there?

Can you claim it against your insurance (or was it not insured) as stolen, simply on the strength of the fact that no one knows where it is, or admits to having taken it, therefore it was stolen?

holy crap. That was almost a year ago.
The judge will get pist at you for waiting so long. It must not have been very important to you. If there are any witnesses or evidence, everyone forgot details or don't give a crap anymore, or have moved to another job or city, or maybe even died.
I wouuld still sue them though. No one should have the right to tow away anyone's car for any circumstances.

Sorry, yet jap vehicles are the 1st off the line. the reason being undesirable help for vehicles older the 5 years. I even have owned numerous vehicles from this united states of america, so i'm unlikely to diminish back up this fallacy. to answer your question- a pair of years in the past the government did a "money for clunkers" issue that took an invaluable style of vehicles off of the roads. The engines had to be ruined and maximum of them have been overwhelmed. The vehicles that have been greater contemporary then did no longer qualify, so there's a huge window of years the place the vehicles have been old adequate to qualify for this money and maximum of them have been overwhelmed. on the time some human beings expressed concern for people who're compelled to purchase used vehicles. beginning drivers and espresso earnings families. So now this element of our inhabitants is hurting for solid vehicles. yet no, jap vehicles won't, have not and not in any respect will out final a US made vehicle.
