Hi. That is not a silly question. The CDRW format works like a hard drive. When you open it one of the options will be to erase the files. Or select and delete just the files you want. Have fun!

Your burning software will have an erase feature. Be advised that you can only erase all the data on the disc and not just a portion of it so if you, for example, want to get rid of some old tunes you dont listen to and keep some other ones to copy the tunes you want to keep into a folder on your desktop so you can burn them back onto the disc if you want after you erase it.

If you're using xp, stick the disc in and open it from 'my computer'. There should be a list of options down the left hand side, including 'erase content' or something similar.

Certain discs you can erase and re-record but there are some that can't,all depends what type of discs you buy in the first place.
I too had this problem til someone pointed this out to me,I now buy discs that can be recorded over if I so choose.

Hit the "Erase" button. Most burning software will also prompt you "Erase?" when you use CDRW media that isn't empty.

Most programs will offer the option to erase the CD RW before writing to it. If yours doesn't, check into Roxio. I use that and it works great.
