She could be allergic to something. I would take her to the doctor though cause sometimes that could be a sign of a much serious thing like lupus. Good Luck

One of my nephews had something just like that when he was little. At first we thought it might have just been a heat rash but it turned out 2 b allergies. He's allergic to penicillin, as is his mother. I was 11 at the time and I was the one who woke up to him crying and saw that the redness from the day before hadn't gone away but actually gotten worse (because originally it was just a spot or two). I remember clearly holding him in my lap in our backyard later that day which stopped him from crying (Crying had also led to some of the redness). Again, since I was 11, I'm not sure how it was treated, or if any treatment was necessary, but I know that it was allergies & that he's a healthy 8 yr old now.

Is it just on her face and neck? Usually an allery causes a rash to be all over. Is is small little pimply type bumps? This is about the age when infant acne usually pops up. My daughter had it wicked one day, and the next it was gone. Call her pediatrician and describe it to them. Most likely a little 1% hydrocortisone ointment will clear it up, but check first.
Good luck! :)

It could be prickly heat. It's pretty normal. Also, it might be eczema. Keep your daughter not too hot, dry, and if it gets worse, call your doctor. My daughter had it really bad, it only took about 5 days for it to clear up. Don't put lotion or oil on it because it will clog up the pores. Also, don't use too hot of water during her bath. Good luck! By the way, if it is an allergy she should have some other symptoms with it like watery eyes or crying or difficulty breathing. If she has any of those symptoms, call your doctor immediately.

It could be eczema. That is about the time it started to show up for my daughter. Eczema can be food related. If your daughter is breastfed, she might have a mild intolerance to something in your diet. The most common triggers are dairy, soy, wheat, eggs, citrus (would usually only be one of these things). If she is formula fed, she might be having a mild reaction to the milk protein.
We did get a prescription for a hydro cortisone cream, but we didn't really end up using it as we found the source. I'd rather cut off the source than treat the symptoms. In the meantime, you can put vaseline/petroleum jelly on it. This was recommended by my public health nurse, and it did help. It is hypoallergenic and won't irritate. It helps if you put it on immediately after a bath after patting dry as it keeps the moisture in the skin to prevent dryness and irritation.

My son had that too and his pediatrician said that it was cradle cap. He said that cradle cap isn't necessarily only on the scalp it can also show up on his face and neck and sometimes on chest and arms. I think the technical term is seborrhoeic dermatitis. If it isn't too severe and doesn't seem to be bothering him it should go away by itself. If it gets worse or starts itching then go to the doctor he'll probably tell you to put some hydrocortisone cream on it. I did that for my son and it went away within a day or two.
Good luck!!

depending on where you live if it's hot it could be heat rash, but it could be an allergy I would bring them to the doctors to be sure. on a comment from the other answer it's most likely not starph that is spreed from contact and a 5 week baby don't get contact from other strangers. and straph is hardly ever life threatening

i never post but always refer and this thread has absolutely baffled me. imagine the women reading this and their situations before posting for the love of god people! I've never read so much nonsensical scare mongering!
....could be because you had intercourse whilst pregnant....COME ON!?!?
The advice is always check with your doctor if concerned thats what they're there for, these forums are generally looked at during out of hours times and so all it results in is mums being terrified until they can get to the doctors!
