Hard to specify a specific PC make/model so I'll suggest that you look at the video card and memory options as the primary factors in your selection. I'm using a standard Lenova desktop PC to play games and all I needed to do was add a decent video card and some memory to play games. Overall, the cost of the system breaks down as (in US $):
Lenova 3000 J115 PC - $499 (this is an AMD based system, but I'm not suggesting this model, just showing it as an example)
nVidia 8600GT - $115
Memory upgrade - $40
I may not be able to play every game at the highest setting but for all that I play, I do have it turned up and get in the 60 frame per second range.

You can build your own super build for less than $1000
Get a core 2 duo e6850 for $300
Motherboard for $75
2GB Ram for $75
8800GTS 320MB for $300
Case + power supply for $75
DVD drive + hard drive for $125
You will have some left over to spare, as the total is ~$950

goto cyberpowerpc.com good website for gaming computers.. look at the amd mega special thats like $745 i think.. let me know what u think... i just bought it but upgraded it hardcore and the price came out to be $1995
