The Democratic Party is slightly conservative. The Republican Party is very conservative. We don't have a liberal party in this country.

Conservatives believe we should resist social change. They believe the poor should help themselves, but the rich should get government assistance.

Liberals believe change is usually a good thing, and it's even better if we can play a part in the change. They believe the rich should be able to help themselves, but the poor may need assistance to maximize their potential.

The names of the parties don't really reflect the form of government they espouse. A Republic is just a form of Democracy in which elected representatives make up the government, instead of all issues being settled by popular vote. The USA is a Federal Constitutional Republic, and both parties support and work within that structure.

Conserve: to keep from being damaged, lost or wasted; to save keep, or preserve. In politics, a conservative is defined as someone tending to conserve or preserve established traditions or institutions.
Many Liberals laugh at morality, family values, religious faith, hard work, high educational standards, self-reliance, courtesy, patriotism, individual responsibility, and pre-marital abstinence.
To conserve, one has to be smart enough to know what to keep and preserve from 10,000 years of civilization, so we don't keep repeating grievous mistakes. Our nation, our culture, our civilization depends on conservatism - either to save what is good and workable, or to rescue us from anarchy when the nation goes belly up.

A conservative is someone who wants less government control, strong border policy and a stable tax structure. Liberals favor numerous sub-committees, open borders and taxation to fund pet/pork projects. Oh, liberals also eat their own young.

Its easy....Conservatives really love rich, white people...don't care too much about anyone not in that category....they believe that every penny of your taxes should go to funding the military, and not helping people who are not rich, or white...they believe there is only one acceptable sexual position: missionary, with the lights off, and only for procreation...they don't want you to have control over your own body, they get very upset when talking about abortion...although once the child is born, they seem to lose all interest in its well-being...they generally think that homosexuals, liberals, and anyone else who doesn't agree with their Judeo-Christian ideals of right and wrong are evil, and responsible for the downfall of the country.
Liberals on the other hand, love people of all creeds, colors, and sexual preferences...they think that if we are going to have a federal government, it should be a force for positive change in the lives of its people, and should spend our tax dollars accordingly. Liberals are generally more sexually adventurous, and like to have fun when "doing it". They believe your body is your body, do what you want with it, and if a man wants to marry a man, or woman wants to marry a woman....who really cares? they have just as much right to be miserable as everyone else!
That's it in a nutshell.

A Conservative simplifies his understanding of the world around him so as to obtain a firmer grasp.

-> Hence the "good and evil" nature of Republican thinking
-> Hence the party of firm, decisive leadership
-> Hence the party of religion
-> Hence a tendency to legislate morality
-> Hence a focus on property and defense

A Liberal embraces the complexity of the world around him. He doesn't allow himself to simplify matters which he feels are naturally complex.

-> Hence the "analysis paralysis" of someone like Clinton
-> Hence flip-flopping
-> Hence the willingness of a Democrat to acknowledge evils wrought by the US
-> Hence a tendency to legislate economics
-> Hence a focus on people and society

Hope that helped
