I am almost 37 weeks along with baby number 4 and I am dialated 3 , the doctor said that the babys head is way down there and there is a very good chance I'll go soon so because of that my husband is afraid to have sex in fear it will hurt the baby, which is driving me crazy, I am pretty sure that unless I have been told not to by the doctor that it is ok to.right?

There are a lot of woman walking around who are dialated and don't know it and they still have sex. You can have sex up until you go into labor, your water breaks or the doctor tells you not too. Your 3 cms, and if your mucous plug is still in tact, then there is no way that the baby can get an infection. That is why pregnant woman have those kinds of things, if we didn't have a mucous plug, then we wouldn't be able to have sex all through pregnancy. The mucous plug protects the baby and if its still there, then have fun. There is no way a man's penis will ever be able to hurt the baby. That is the way a lot of expectant fathers think. If your going crazy, tie him up, and do whatever you want to do to him. Most men would find that, well you know. And there isn't a thing he can do. And what men don't think about is that once you have that baby, you won't be able to have sex for 4-6 weeks, depending on how you labored and birthed your baby. Personally I want to have all the sex I can get because I am 38 weeks and who knows when I am going to go into labor, and then were going to have to wait at least a month to be able to do it again and to me that is a really long time. As tired as I am now and as big as I am, that doesn't matter to me. Have sex now, because it may be awhile before you can again. Tell him to think about that.

It is absolutely Ok to have sex. Sex will not hurt the baby. Just be gentle, you can get on top so that you can control how deep the penetration is. If you were not supposed to have sex, the doctor would have told you. You can even call the nurse and ask if your husband needs more re-assurance. (And I'm assuming the mucous plug is still intact, so the baby is kind of sealed up in his/her own little room). Good luck and have fun!!!

You are absolutely okay and he should know that there is no way he can hurt the baby! This is your 4th??? My husband wanted sex more than I did I think when we were pregnant! The baby is floating in amniotic fluid - there is NO WAY sex will hurt! The only time you wouldn't want to is if you were in danger of premature labor - which you're not - or if your water was broken already.
You're totally fine - so go have some fun!

It's fine to have sex so long as the Dr didn't tell you not to. And contrary to the 1st repsonse being dilated doesn't matter it's if your water has broken you should be having intercourse. Actually having sex after some dilation has occured can help speed up the process...something in semen can trigger contractions and further dilate you. I had plenty of sex with twins with Twin A being a +1 station..his head was coming through a bit and everything was fine...

You are correct it is OK to have sex right now, up to the point of your water breaking. After that you would be very prone to infection. But until that happens yes it is fine. I acctually had sex with my boyfriend while I was in labor contractions evey 5 mins, it was going soooo slow. We had sex, when I got to the hospital my water broke a few mins later, and we were on our way. So if your husband is worried take into concideration your water could very well break right after which may really freak him out. LOL

The final move by the baby takes a good distance. The hurting of the child by the man's member is a common myth, but if your doctor has not warned you to avoid intercourse, they do know it happens - many pregnant women are very apt to having sex close to the birth due to hormonal fluxuations and the different sensations. The child will be fine.

Wait until you are 38 weeks to have sex. You can not hurt the baby but you can stimulate contractions and labor. I think lots of Dr's don't think to tell you not to have sex this late because they assume you don't want to anyway. There is a enzyme in sperm that stimulates and may bring on labor. 38 weeks is full term.

If your baby has dropped and you are effaced 3 cm., you may want to to to hospital now. If you have sex first, you will almost certainly deliver before you get to hospital. When you get there (before sex), ask if it is OK. A hospital bed would be the safest place to have sex at this point in your pregnancy. It sounds as if your husband is a bit more level-headed than you. Having had 3 children already, you should know how unpredictable time of delivery can be.
There will be plenty time for sex later, but only now for that baby to be born safely.

Absolutely! I had sex when I was dilated 3. But really, your body will let you know...if you start and it doesn't feel right, then stop. Honestly, I think sometimes men get a little egotistical about their "length," thinking they may hit the baby, but that is extremely unlikely.
