I have two separate light switches that control two separate lights in my kitchen. These lights are from the same feed. The problem I'm having is that the one light will only turn on when the other light is turned on? I'm pretty sure I've connected everything properly so I'm stumped. Can anyone help me out?

I realize I have not worded the question entirely correct. I have two lights that were on the same 14/3 feed. The original two light switches were removed as a new wall was put in. I joined two 14/2 wires to the 14/3 and ran it across the wall to a new location. Now the one light switch will only turn on when the other switch is turned on.

Your feed for the 2nd switch is on the switched leg from the 1st switch. Back to wiring school for you.

Make sure that the hot wire , going to the lite that will not turn on, is not hooked up to the output(wire going to first lite) of the first switch.
Use something to check the voltage on the wires. Normally the 14/3 wire has a common bare safety ground. Unless you are using a 2way switch wire-- If you had two way switches, you should reinstall them.

You probably connected the second light to the switch leg of the first. Go back and rewire them and that should do the trick for you.

you probalbly connected the second switch to the first on a dead end line, so when the first is off, there is no power going to the second one. if they are wired in line from the power source this can happen

It sounds like the three way switch is wrong look here.
