My husband collected scabs.
Yes, like the things that form as a wound heals type of scabs...
He did out grow that though...

I collect shot glasses. I have over 100. I believe I have 23 states and 6 countries. When my friends go on trips they always bring me back a shot glass. I have a shot glass from every World Series and All-Star Game since 1998. I have no idea why I started collecting them...I'm so clumsy. And you don't even want to know how annoying it was to pack them when I moved. UGH!

I have collected destroyed automobile engine and brake parts to try to scare people into doing proper maintenance on their cars. But I had to move and those parts were in the way so I threw them out.

I used to collect matchbooks from every location I visited
I used to collect Zippo lighters from ever ship / squadron I served with.
I used to collect the arming wires from each torpedo (practice) I ever dropped.

I used to collect flies as pets when I was very young. I used to pull off a wing so it wouldn't escape and keep them in matchboxes. I AM NOT PROUD OF THIS and have regrets and also turned vegetarian.
