The best batsman must be one who places the ball well between fielders, attempts to hit the strokes well, plays the shots with confidence, strikes sixes and fours in time and at will and be a good runner between the wickets and be able to stay at the crease for a long time and hit big centuries, consistently all these qualites are abundant in Sachin Tendulkar, therefore he is the best batsman in the world.

At the moment you have to say Ricky Ponting. He can stay in and score quickly. Sachin is still amongst the best but no longer the best IMO as he is more of an accumulator then a destroyer now.
