Do schools even have these? Would you support a program aimed at showing children proper gun safety, handling, etc.? Or do you think this is not a good idea? Why or why not?

They used to have hunting clubs, decades ago. Maybe some areas still do? My grandfather was the teacher in charge of one. They taught kids hunting skills, gun safety, how to care for a rifle, etc.

There are gun safety courses for kids out there, but I don't know if it should be done in the schools. I am both an avid supporter of the right to arms, and a parent. I can see both sides of this, and you pose a very interesting question. For parents who respect and handle arms correctly, they will most likely find the safety courses. But, its the kids of parents that don't care, or don't respect guns, that I think run the biggest risk of getting their hands on them and using them in the wrong ways. Tough call.

I think that the education in safety can be beneficial, I'd just worry that it would be more of an advertisement for some kids.

Yes. I think it is a fine idea. I was brought up with guns. Part of my parents requirement was gun safety classes. Along with their very firm guidance and lecturing of the place guns have in our lives as Americans. My father hunted. Not the beer swilling type of hunt. But for food in our freezer. He had no respect for those that were careless.
They were liberals as am I.

Are you kidding! Kids can get expelled from bringing a toy gun to school, and they get suspended for even drawing a gun in art class. The schools are overly paranoid about guns, so it just won't happen. The kids can join the NRA and learn about guns at a shooting range, or they can go hunting with Dick Cheney! Better learn to duck fast, kids.

I wouldn't mind as long as they were dealing with rifles or other large guns that can't easily be concealed. Also if they dealt with safety and showing what the penalties are when you use a gun in an inappropriate manner.
