Valid comparism? What are your thoughts?

LOL

Actually, I am what many would consider a "Nazi."
I love breastfeeding (anywhere) and am still doing so with my 14.5 month old.

This is just something I found on another post ...

How can you compare bfing to pooping? BFing isn't a waste material. It's nutritious and wonderful! BFing doesn't stink to high heaven or leave awful, noticeable stains. People are so silly.

I really hate people who compare these two acts. Pooping in public causes offensive odor, potential mess, and quite a bit of discomfort (Though if you gotta go, you gotta go!).

Breastfeeding is a natural act of providing nourishment to one's child. There is nothing offensive or messy about it. I breastfeed my son anywhere and everywhere that he needs to eat. I have no qualms about nursing him in public and (Oh horror!) I don't cover up. The main reason for that is because my son will not allow it. He pulls off any cover I've tried. And honestly, when one's practiced, there's no reason to cover up. I don't show anything when I'm nursing. Layers work wonders in such situations.

There is no comparison, and I applaud anyone who breastfeeds in public. Good for you for doing the best for you baby!

There is no valid comparison. And for those that do compare breastfeeding to excretion, masturbation,or nudity are just plain ignorant or have problems in their head.
I've never seen the correlation between nurturing and comforting a child and the act of excretion.

Not valid at all. I understand the comparision of baring bodily parts that are normally kept private but it ends there. I breastfed in public all the time and felt no shame, and I wasn't ever uncomfortable doing it. I kept myself covered while breastfeeding although it was still obvious what I was doing it didn't bother me at all. Actually, it was a lot better for me than dealing with people looking at me and my screaming baby. I also liked the freedom of being able to continue my very busy day without having to run to a stinky public restroom just so I could nurse sitting on a toilet, wasting time I needed to do other things.

Breastfeeding is feeding your child right? Would you feed your 3 year old in public? Most people would, so what's wrong with breastfeeding in public?

Just cover yourself up, you don't need to have everything out in the open! If people have a problem with it, it shouldn't matter to you.

I don't think breastfeeding and pooping in public is a valid comparison.

The breast feeding part I have figured out. Obviously if you're old enough to type, you must have finished suckling along time ago. And breast feeding in public is just fine in my opinion, but whose doing the pooping...you or your baby? That part I'm unclear on.
I'd say that it's wrong either way. That's why we have public washrooms (for you) and diapers (for your baby).
By the way, the two are apples and oranges, and I see no valid comparison.

Not even a little. Pooping in public isn't done because it's not healthy.

Nursing in public is very healthy. In fact, if some smartass tries to poop in public, mom's milk will help overcome those fecal bacteria.

At any rate, you can be sure that a baby who nurses in public, will soon need to poop!

For those who don't know, the questioner has nursed in public many times and would never make the comparison herself. She's a fellow Nazi.

Where do you draw your correlation?

I've no qualms with breastfeeding in public. It's natural and I refuse to deny my baby food. However, the closest thing I've come to doing so is in the backseat of my car. If somebody should see me, that's their problem. The last time I did it I think I did flash a man who looked to be in his early 20s and thought it funny. Eh.

I do have a problem with people walking around with her breasts exposed in a slutty, sexual, immodest manner. That's completely different. Unfortunately, because of the taboo of bared breasts for any reason something as pure and natrual and wonderful as breastfeeding is also seen as vulgar, just because the breast is exposed. Because of that, I'm more likely to subtly feed in a group of my women friends, but not in front of any males other than my husband. This is the most perfect food my child will receive in her life. I'm thankful that I'm blessed to be able to provide for her. For me, it was the only option. I learned this from my mother, who nursed me.

*lol* Well no one gets all that upset when dogs poop in public.

But no it isn't a valid comparison. Breastfeeding is eating -pure and simple. Breastmilk also isn't a "biohazard" like blood and feces. Yes some disease can be spread through breastmilk, but so can they be spread from spit.

And *ahem* why is it ok for drunk guys to pee in public but not gals?

Breastfeeding doesn't smell bad.

I have no problem at all with public breastfeeding if the mom keeps everything covered up.
