IMO, if Mr. Bonds decides he doesnt want to be part of the hall of fame as he is...then so be it. BUT Once he declines then I do not think there should be any changing of his mind later. 5 -10 years after his retirment if he later decides then he wants in...I'd say sorry...too late. It is an honor given to very few to even get to play the game professionally, much less have a career warrenting them to induction to the Hall of Fame. The steriod issue aside, it is an honor to be included in such elite company. If it is not good enough unless it is on YOUR terms...then it should not be an honor bestowed on you at all.

Barry Bonds is an egotistical a...h..... What he said about the Hall proves it. He thinks he is the best home run hitter that ever picked up a bat. Far from it. Why doesn't he prove he was clean. He has the money to do it. I know I would. No one and I mean no one is bigger than the game itself. Being elected to the hall is the biggest honor a player can have. As far as the ball is concerned he did not even give it any significance. He said he did not want it . Well, I certainly would have or give it to the HOF to display. If I had anything to do with it I would take all of his items in HOF, put them in a box and send them back to him. I hope no one picks him next year. He is over the hill anyway.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought when I heard this--He really thinks he's bigger than the game. My jaw literally did drop when I heard that--he's going to threaten the Hall-of-Fame that he won't go in? Wtf? Pete Rose is a sociopathic narcisist, and even he seems to understand that he needs the Hall and definitely not the other way around. If Barry Bonds refuses induction, all it will mean is that in 30 years or so, everybody will know the home run king is not in the Hall of Fame and it has something to do with steroids. If he just kept his mouth shut, I actually think a lot of the scandal would die down once he's been retired for a decade or so.

Bond's obviously thinks he is bigger than the Hall of Fame. The Hall has hundreds of baseball greats, and one of the men that made baseball so huge on home runs, now cripled the sport. Personaly I do not think he deserves to be in the Hall. Bonds thinks he is biggest fish in the sea, and he is not. There are so many more players that deserve a spot in the Hall before him. I love Ecko's asterik on the ball and it sucks thats Bonds had to go out like this but, it's got to happen.

When you keep telling yourself you are innocent, eventually you will believe it yourself. I like the part where he says you can't alter history. Well; is'nt that what all of baseball's steroid taking players did, alter the history books? My thoughts on the subject is this, even though the man cheated, they need to either convict him or just let it go. There is no point on putting an asterisk on a ball and into Cooperstown unless you are proclaiming he is guilty. If they do this I think it is a bad mistake. Cooperstown should be a place of memories and honor, not a place that makes political statements.

He just basically gave them the easy out. If they display the ball they never have to worry about Barry again. Done deal.
Though it would be unfair of them to display the ball unless Barry is convicted of a crime so I doubt they will. I know most people dislike Barry but I think an orgaization like the Hall of Fame knows better than to display the ball as is.

The Hall of Fame is bigger than Bonds, without the steroids. It has been around longer than him and will be around long after he is gone.

I am not sure if the ball is donated or lent to the HOF. If lent, they couldn't change the ball without the owner's authority.
It may be given under the same circumstances.
However, I think the Hall says 'they are pleased to have the ball', it's a part of history along with the asterisk.

I don't think he is. We all need to remember that he has not been convicted and nothing has been shown that he cheated or lied on the stand so therefore why is he already guilty? If he's guilty then charge him with it. I'm a fan of professional baseball. I watch baseball because I love the game and have the opportunity to watch the best baseball players in the world. If I was a fan of someones character, then we need to treat a**holes like Curt Schilling, Roger Clemens, Ty Cobb, Tommy Lasorda, Pete Rose, Billy Martin, A. J. Pierzynski, Carl Everett, Milton Bradley, Bud Selig, John Rocker, Jeff Kent, Kenny Rodgers, Gary Sheffield, Pedro Martinez, Jose Canseco, Albert Belle, Jose Offerman like sh*t. with more of a legitimate reason to and the list can go on. OH...I apologize to any professional baseball player that I may have left off this list.
