why is it the Goverment think tank seem to think it would be a good idea to tone down xmas just for the sake of other religious beliefs If I went to another country I would abide by their local coustoms and not b***h about it - unless it included beheading me!
I know my spelling is awful but spell check is on the blink!

Hi there.
Christianity is under general attack y the government, downgrading Christmas is less about being fair and more about undermining Christianity.
My friends of other faiths think we are mad to even think it. Most of them love Christmas and love to see us enjoying it!
I seem to be ina minority here, because i love Christmas and that includes going to mass every Sunday and Midnight Mass - just can't be beaten, the togetherness and the love.
Once we are grown up, it is our duty to make Christmas as magical for the children as we can - that is the responsibility passed to us. We enjoyed it, now we enjoy creating it.The simpler the better, it just needs everybody together doing silly stuff to be perfect
Enjoy, Steve..

Getting rid of Christmas is a bit drastic, and this was asked by loads of people yesterday.
Also why blame the other religions.. I mean in all honesty, if were to go ask a Muslim how they felt, they wouldnt be offended by christmas.. So don't even bother with that argument because it stupid and you're just falling into the trap of more racial and religiously fuelled hatered..
as for saying happy holidays.. I'm happy enough saying merry christmas.. yeah there's nothing wrong with the first saying, why should it change really??
Why on earth has this issue suddenly risen when there wasn't a problem before? I knwo others form other religion who also enjoy christmas..
why are some of you so boring, not wanting to enjoy the spirit and warmth of christmas? why not let others just enjoy it and be quiet..

I think the reason why we should tone down Xmas, shouldn't be other religious beliefs, it should be the disastrous consequences on the economy, how much people get into debt in the name of a religious belief in the last 4 months of the year.

that would be fine with me. I hate the holidays. It's not fun any more. Everything now a days seems to be about "Who has the bigger and better and most expensive presents. " It's about kids wanning Ipods, Computers and other high tech electronics that make parents spin off their pocket books. Its sad to say the real meaning of Christmas is gone.
The truth about Christmas now a days is that of how do we booster our economy and make a profit. Really in my opinion I am not caring for it any more. I got those great warmth feelings of memories like Christmas used to be when I was little and growing up in my Grandparents home in Germany. Those were great Christmas times. I miss them.
As for now a days , I could do without the hazzel and buzzel and the check book......

Since Christmas, Hannukah, Ramadan, Kwanzaa and other holidays this time of year are all practiced, what's wrong with stores just going with one "Happy Holidays" sign, rather than a half dozen other signs. Do you really need to be reminded its Christmas everywhere you go?
Sorry, I never understood why saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" is a big deal. It seems rather silly, especially since no one ever complains that everyone calls it "Valentine's Day" instead of "St. Valentine's Day." Where's the religious outrage at that omission?

It's funny how the Government Think Tank, can offend the people of Britain by saying this about our festival, or does it not matter about offend us? i would never dream of downgrading anyone else's festival, nor would the Government.

I haven't heard anything about this. Do you have a link to an article you read?
Anways, I don't think the goverment should have a say in it. If Christians want to celebrate in an "ll out way", then let them do it the way they want. Personally, I love Christmas and I love the way we celebrate it, great for family get together.

If they want to put Christmas on a par with other religions then they should introduce holidays for each festival that way there will be full equality

This is a Christian country and if other faiths do not like our beautifull Christmas celebrations, tough. The moslems and all the other faiths who are too miserable or too narrow minded to accept that this is what we do in late December in Britain, well they can allways turn off their tellies, don't need to go to the pub and can sit in and observe their own "celebrations"

I may not be christian but I agree with you 100% no govement should stop a religious festival in their own country just because of any other religion its just plain wrong.
I'm Hindu btw.
