Dogs and cats. Also hamsters, rats, mice, fish, birds, horses, and other farm animals (although not necessarily in that order). But dogs and cats would definately be the most popular.

Last I heard, cats were number one. Easier to take care of than dogs. Also less SMELLS LIKE A DOG. More self-sufficient, not so slobbery:D

I would think Dogs.
Cats are pretty popular too, probably more popular among apartment-dwellers (such as myself. you wont catch me walking a dog in the rain with a baggie of poo)
