Nah - it's the basic human "my group uber alles" drive. It's built-in to us, so it's hardly a disease. Of course, some of us are more blindly submissive to authority than others, which is where the problem comes in.

Not when it is combined with democracy and education and freedom of the press.

An informed populace is not a rabid one. However, people who wave the flag and shout for action are rarely well educated or informed. We have to guard against those.

Not necessarily. But it can be a symptom of one. A precursor to something more sinister, such as fascism and other political forms that can twist the pride one may have for their country, into something dark and malevolent.

It did a century ago, it did in the World Wars, and it does in the politically based wars of today.

It is when it is taken seriously. Flag worshippers can be a menace and are normally rather bigotted
