Several previous spacecraft have included time capsules for humans (or aliens) in the far future. The LAGEOS satellite (which will re-enter the atmosphere in 8.4 million years) contains a plaque showing the arrangement of the Earth's continents in the past, present, and future. Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11 both contain plaques that give pictorial information about their time and place of origin. Most famously, the two Voyager spacecraft each contain a golden record that contains pictures and sounds of Earth, along with symbolic directions for playing the record and data detailing the location of Earth. There is also the KEO satellite. KEO is a satellite space time capsule which will be launched in 2009 or 2010 carrying messages from the citizens of present Earth to humanity 50,000 years from now, when the satellite orbiting Earth will return.

I think you must be thinking of the Pioneer and Voyager space craft sent to the outer planets in seventies and eighties.
All four of these craft carried messages of goodwill, pictures of us as well as some samples of our music and other information
They will not reach an other star system for thousands of years though even at the incredible speeds they are travelling at (there the fastest man made objects ever) that is unless some nosey alien on some passing UFO picks them up out of curiosity.
As a matter of interest the late great cosmologist Dr.Carl Sagan helped prepare the information on these craft.

Voyager Golden Record.
Voyagers 1 and 2 had location plaques along with Pioneers 10 and 11. The Voyager spacecraft included the recordings.

Voyager - it has a plaque showing our position in the solar system and a naked, waving man and woman.
Dunno about music. Wouldn't the batteries on a tape player have run down by now?

Just searched on Explorer and didn't notice it among the 83 odd satellites they've sent up. The name is referenced in one or more movies about aliens coming to earth in response to it but I can't remember them, either - searching on Starman didn't help.
