NASA aims to put a man/woman on mars by 2037, should it be a man or a woman that represents the human race by being the first person to set foot on it. We have both male and female astronauts now so who do you think it should be and why?

How about both and they step out together?

I think it doesn't matter.

I think the first person to set foot on Mars should be the most qualified person, with gender being the LAST consideration.

The whole point of having women be "liberated" means that they will be treated and thought of in EXACTLY the same way that men are, when it comes to skills and abilities.

To say it should be one or the other shows bias, no matter which direction you're leaning in.

Women already have a foot on their males mates from Mars! But some believe Men are another incarnation of the Bible's snake and not to do different.Again, but with both feet

The first person on Mars should be a man and let the women go first on Venus. See it is all about equality.

Whoever gets there first. Unlike what my clone says, not all female astronauts are witless affirmative action hires or Lisa Nowak-types — in fact, very few are, if any. There was a recent news article about how the commander of the space shuttle STS-120 and the commander of the International Space Station are both female, which is purely coincidental.

In 2037? Whoever it will be is still probably a kid. Whoever is most qualified for the job, I guess, male or female. I'm betting it'll be whoever the mission commander is.

I have two conflicting thoughts:

1. It should be a woman, because a man was the one allowed to step on the moon first.

2. It should be whoever is most qualified.

It would be a woman, but that doesn't mean it SHOULD be. Being the most qualified & best fit for the job isn't good enough anymore.

No, nowadays you have to be the most politically correct & if a man, & worse yet a WHITE man (shudders) were to be the one selected...

Well, that's not acceptable by modern society.

No, a woman (preferably non-white) would be selected.

I think whatever they decide would be fine but, I feel a Woman would be a good choice, because they can conceive life and it would be an interesting Symbolism for her to make that first step. and we have already seen Man flaunt their stuff on the moon.

Human. Preferably American (only because I am). Gender on this one means nothing. Who ever is the top notch should get it, not who ever is the top of a specific gender.
