I have known several people who are only attracted to people who already have someone. I used to have a best friend who only dated married women, and showed no intrest in several hotties untill after they got attached. Then he couldn't resist them.
What drives a person like that?

The thrill of the chase and the fact that they can get sex with no string attached...usually.

Because they have commitment and self-esteem issues. They don't really want a relationship that requires much of them. A cheating person looses all their rights to have expectations or make demands- so the single person can do whatever they want. It's all about doing and saying just enough to get the person to come back and and have sex again- that's it- that's all those relationships are really about. And it goes both ways. So it either serves the person because it is so one dimensional or it is because they have incredibly low self-esteem and do not believe that they can get someone of their own. This one dimensional quality also serves the person who doesn't think that in a multi-dimensional relationship that they would have enough to offer- and being second feeds the self-loathing that they love. This is why, often, women who only think that they have sex to offer, find themselves in this type of relationship.

There's several reasons, I can list a few.

The first one I call "the scent". I claim that women can smell if a guy is taken. Something about him being unavailable excites them. It is the forbidden fruit. There's actually some truth to it if you care to research. Men who are in love do give off a different scent. Of course it's not a conscious thing when it is smelled, probably not even noticed. But it still has its affects. Also, men who are single may seem less confident, and we all know women are attracted to confidence.

And here's the second part: faithfulness. Women like a guy who is willing to be in a committed relationship. Since women are not logical creatures by nature, the irrationality of this entire part doesn't seem to cross their minds. If a woman sees that a guy is willing to commit to a woman, that means to her that he woudl also be willing to commit to her. She just needs to steal him away. Because something must be wrong with the woman he is with. But there's nothing wrong with her, so things would be different if he was with her instead of his own woman.

And finally there is the luxury of irresponsibility. Since he is with someone else, he will go back to her when the little affair or fling is over. She will not have to worry about him being clingy or calling her all the time. He can simply be used as a tool to temporarily satisfy her needs and then be sent back to his woman. She doesn't have to concern herself with any obligation that a woman normally would when hooking up with a single guy. She's simply borrowing another woman's man for a short while.

It's the thrill of the chase, for starters. There's also the fact that some people just want what they're not supposed to have. Could also be that the people who do it have low self esteem and it makes them feel better about themselves to get with someone who is attached.

the responsibilities!!! Stop and think about it for a moment, ok. Why would a married female more interesting chasing than a single female? She have to go home to her spouse and kids (if she have any). He don't have to be bother with here unless he want too. For a single woman she want to move in with him and this is something that he don't want to happen any time soon.

People want what they can't have and knowing they can't have them just makes things a bit more exciting for them. They also like the fact that they can mess around and not have to commit to the person.

They like the risk, the challenge, the excitement of it. They also may have a fear of commitment themselves and only go after someone they dont see as a threat

Some people only go after the unattainable or unavailable. For the thrill and the drama.
