No. But we're probably entering a new era: Aquarius. Maybe most of us will not even notice. Astrologists say that the people who are born in the new era are likely to be more peaceful. The world is under a different constellation of stars every 2.000 years or something, and ancient civilizations have predicted this.
I think the word 'the end' is a misinterpretation / mistranslation of ancient texts. Maya calender predicts three days of darkness from December 21st, and doesn't talk about what happens afterwards. This doesn't mean they thought it was the end of everything; maybe they just thought the new era was not relevant.
Because.. darkness? 21st of December is the darkest day in the year; the sun is at its lowest point for exactly three days. Coincidence? I think the Maya calender has everything to do with advanced knowledge of astronomy. And I do believe that the new constellation Aquarius is coming.

Yes. Not me but, yes, there are people other than you who believe the world is coming to an end December 21st, 2012.

precisely _what_ events has the Mayan calendar predicted? this is incredibly complication-free to examine "predictions" into early writings after the certainty, fairly while coping with a poorly widespread and entirely diverse language and orthography. Scientists do no longer assume something out of the conventional to take place interior the year 2012, or fairly on the date December 21, different than the solstice, which occurs in line with annum. not one of the "predicted" happenings for 2012 postpone under close scrutiny. "Planet X" and "Nibiru" in simple terms do no longer exist. The Mayan calendar ends a cycle, yet there have been no predictions of the tip of the international. The sunlight does not line up with the galactic centre; this is 6 tiers off. No asteroids or comets are actual predicted to hit Earth. All of those issues became prepare via sensationalists with a view to sell their books and tv exhibits, and shamelessly promoted via the background Channel. do no longer take any of it heavily!

The planet Nibiru has an odd orbit... it passes between the sun and the earth once every 3600 years. When this happens, the earth as we currently understand it will cease to be. It will be an end to what is, and a beginning of what will be.

Just short of Christmas, what a bummer. Is there a theory as to how the world ends and why that date?

I certainly do not. People have been predicting the end of the world since the beginning of the world.
