They should be put on a little island together, with little cars that only go about 15 mph. So they don't really hurt each other too bad when they crash.

At the end of the day, the law is the law. You don't drink and drive. When people end up getting injured or killed because some jerk decides to ignore sensible warnings about alcohol and driving, it makes my blood boil
I get get even more steamed up when judges give out petty sentences to drink drivers who have caused a death or seriously injured a person because of their own stupidity.
The law states that if you are drunk, are driving a vechele and end up causing an RTA which results in injury or loss of life, then you are responsible and must take the consequences. A 3 point penalty endorsement and miserly fine is hardly justice for the family whose loved one is lay in a coma or on a mortuary slab await identification.
Drink drivers need a hard lesson in order to stop them offending time after time and its real simple. If you get drunk, drive and cause an accident an kill someone then you go to jail and you stay there.

These are people who not only need pschiatric help, but also need help to be no threat to the safety of others on the roads. Lock them up in a mental facility, sober them up, identify the root cause of their drinking problem. NEVER give them another driver's license. Most drunk drivers are repeat offenders, and even killing someone does not stop them from doing it again.

I have never had a dui, but i have driven past the legal limit. I think the legal limit is a joke one beer? I think there should be different levels of dui, a guy who drinks 8 drinks gets the same as a guy who has had 1 beer. Not fair!!! If you drive on a suspended sober, the sentence is worse then your 1st dui?
I hate people who drive drunk, but I hate it that people get a dui over 1beer now. I don't know the answer, but this needs to be fixed. Repeat dui's might need jailtime to fix them, it won't work for all the people.

Learn your lesson. Drink at home. Do not drive. I'm not saying that you are alcoholics all of you repeat drunk drivers, but you seem to have a problem controling yourself when you are having too good of a time. Your drinking isn't causing the problem... It's your driving. Take one thing out of the equation either drinking or driving, and you'll at least keep your freedom without putting others in danger. Good Luck!

I don't know, that's a good question. I mean yes obviously they need help but if they don't want to help themselves then they should have to pay for the consequences. What if someone was trying to help them, they didn't want help, and they got drunk and went out and got in a car accident and killed a mom and her baby ? At that point people should just stop trying to help them and just put them in jail for manslaughter so they'll have time to think about what they've done.

Alcoholism is a terrible thing, but getting behind the wheel and asking others to bear the consequences of their mistakes is inexcusable.
Locked up for life? No, but they need to fine the hell out of them, work 'em to death with community service, impose significant jail time and license suspension, and make them think twice.

They probably will never stop becuase they don't see why its so dangerous. They should have their licence taken away but that doesn't always prevent them from driving. The car breatlizer thing that prevents the car from starting if drunk seems like a good idea.

The same people who drink and drive repeatedly are generally the same people who havea drinking problem in the first place. They need help, and if my tax dollars are going to pay for him to exist, better it be a re-hab center, where there is at least a chance of his contributing back to society one day, then prison, where he'll find all sorts of new and improved vises to destroy himself with.

As one who has been cited multiple times for that offense, last one over ten years ago, I would say yes they need help, but you can't make someone get sober, they have to do it for themselves. You have to protect the public, so after about two, I'd say at least a year in jail, and license gone for about ten...if someone get killed...throw away the key...

I do think that repeat offenders need to serve jail time, ordered weekly alcohol rehabilitation treatment, indefinate revocation of their drivers license, and ordered that they work at a morgue for six months to see what their stupidity can result from.
