You mean that this is a question for your son, so considered simple enough for him ... but you can't do it?

Right then. Here goes, with explanation.

A small milkshake is 300 ml
1/3 of that is 100 ml so 2/3 is 100 x 2 = 200ml

Thus a large one is 300 x 1 2/3 = 500ml
-----------------------------------------

2/3 of a small milkshake is 100ml x 2 = 200ml
1/2 of a large milkshake is 500/2 = 250ml

so 1/2 a large milkshake is more tha n 2/3 of a small milkshake.

Try it with a couple of glasses and a measuring jug

300 ml = small
300 ml + (300 ml x 2/3) = large
300 ml + (600 ml / 3) = large
300 ml + 200 ml = large
500 ml = large

2/3 of a small is 200 ml
1/2 of a large is 250 ml
So 1/2 of large is more!

Hope this helps explain the steps for future reference :)
