2x^2-6x-4=0
Comparing the above expression with standard quadratic equation ax^2+bx+c=0.we get a=2,b=-6 and c= -4
x={6+-sqrt(36+32)/4
=(6+-sqrt68)/4
=(6+-2sqrt17)/4
=(3+-sqrt17)/2

2x^2-6x-4=0
2(x^2-3x-2)=0
x^2-3x-2=0

using the quadratic formula you have D=9-4*1*(-2)=9+8=17

so x= (3±√17)/2
x=(3+√17)/2= 3.56
x=(3-√17)/2= - 0.562

divide through by 2 to get x^2-3x-2

not factorable

use quadratic formula to get x = [3 +/- (root 17)]/2

x ² - 3 x - 2 = 0
x = [ 3 ± √17 ] / 2
x = 3.56 , x = - 0.562
