Usually when you start becoming sexually active, once a year. A pap smear is to detect uterine cancer. It is very fast and only feels like being poked. An OB/GYN usually performs this procedure, but a family doctor can also test you. Good Luck!

it doesn't hurt but you can feel it. it's just a small pressure. you should start getting them around 15/16 or if you are sexually active and then every year after that. it's not the most fun thing in the world but it's over real quick.
also, bring a hoodie or button/zip up sweater with you. sometimes they have tyou put on the paper dressing gown and it's FREEZING in there!!!! i always wear warm socks too. haha i hate going.
you should also request to have std testing, even if you aren't active!! usually if it's your first time there they will do it.
it's okay. it's normal to be nervous and scared!! having someone poke you down there is nervewracking!! good luck!!

Generally, women go to their OBGYN annually once they are sexually active or turn 17 years of age, whichever comes first.
And while there is a slight bit of discomfort with a Pap smear, it does NOT hurt.

Once you have become sexually active then you should see your GP and they will tell you that every 2 years is fine, it doesn't hurt, you just relax take in deep breaths and think about something else... If you are uncomfortable with a male GP you can ask to see a Female... But I had always found the Male GP where much more sympathetic... But its up to you whom you would want to see...

You should have one once a year. It's not the most comfortable thing in the world, but it's also not painful - and I'd take 5 minutes of discomfort over having cervical cancer any day!

It doesn't hurt; and you should really start getting them once you start your period or being sexually active.
