Turn the project 180 degrees. What was facing you is turned to the back and your yarn is now on the right hand side on the needle. All of the work should be moved from your right hand to your left and start knit or purl your rows (what ever your instructions call for).

Turn the work so the needle with the cast on is in your left hand. put the empty needle in your right hand. Insert the tip of the needle in your right hand into the first stitch on the left hand needle from the front of the loop to the back, making an X shape with the needles. Wrap the yarn around the right hand needle, between the stitches, bring the right hand needle forward, catch the loop in the middle, and pull the loop on the left hand needle off the needle. that is your first knit stitch. continue across the row.
Below are a couple of sites to help, and you should also check out youtube for an excellent how to knit video.

it depends on how you cast on, if you cast on using the long tail method then you turn your work and then purl that row and then you can take it from there.

if you used a cable cast on or knit on your stitches then you just knit the row that you cast on but make sure that you knit through the back loops so the bottom doesnt get all holey and insanely loose.

Here is my favorite site on the web. You can also go to the library and get a book called "The Knitters Companion". It is written by the host of the show Knitty Gritty on DIY network. I have not purchased it, but I have gotten it from the library several times. It helps with knitting from the beginner to the experienced.

Here are a few links for you . If you get a" how to" book from the public library it will help a lot because you have the info right at your fingertips. That is how I learned to knit and I have made many sweaters of fairisle and intarsia and cables, so you see it is possible fo anyone and you just need to persevere
