My landlord wrote me a week ago saying the following:

"As far as I am concerned, pay me for Nov. and we will be settled up."
Now all of a sudden, he's writing emails saying the opposite. Am I justified if I stop paying rent, and take this to the courts?

I would say yes it would be upheld in court because the email can be traced by it's ip adress back to the source.
I have seen court cases here in the USA where emails did make or break a case.
Good Luck

Is the email a "free" one or one tied to an account... like abc@COMCAST.NET. Can you link his email address to anything else online? Make sure you bring the "header" info to court with you. Basically, his IP can be traced.

Read your contract carefully. Attach all correspondence to the contract and let him take you to court. I think, once he reverses the contract in writing, he can not re-reverse it.

My guess is that he had another tenant, but that it fell through

Review your lease and see if it speaks to this situation

Or you could just move out and let him try to sue you.

How will you prove they were written by him if he denies it?
