drain began the week after I moved in, and hasn't stopped. Second, we don't flush the cardboard, and the only thing grosser than having sewage in my tub is looking in the trash can to see used tampons lying in it. NO ONE that I know (thank God) puts a used tampon in the trash can in their home. Third, I don't think my living there for a week, tampons or no, would make me personally responsible for drainage problems in a 50 year old house. Though now nauseated by some, I thank you all for your responses, particularly the ones from people who have common sense.

It is a landlord's responsibilty to provide safe, clean housing for their tenants. If they cannot provide that by making you live in raw sewage, they have violated tthe lease. A fifty-year-old house is bound to have plumbing problems that most likely cannot be attributed to flushing tampons. Thanks, by the way, for the picture of a trash can full of bloody tampons that I can't get out of my head....ick.

Not to be crude and apologetically sorry to offend you but, flushing a tampon is a "No,No" in any toilet. If you don't know anyone that puts a tampon into their trashcan instead of a toilet, then I bet all your friends that use them have toilet problems.

And "yes" you are responsible for your drainage problems up to a point, then you get evicted, that's the way we did it.

You see, a woman with thee kids, first week, a cell phone in the toilet, she wanted it out "right now" and, to prove it used the toilet before I could get there, flooding the floor, then left while I was stuck with that mess.

Second or third week. She did the same, this time a kid with a toy, then another week, both toilets because I couldn't get there right away. This time we started charging her. She tried taking us to court, new home, new toilets, all this stuff.

About the four week or so she called with....a plugged toilet, we showed up this time with the Constable and an eviction notice.

Use the trash for the tampon, your the one that used it, not the plumber. Wrap it in paper if it's offensive. You are responsible.

You need to move but first get the necessary complaint logged and photos and city inspector (your landlord has to pay). Find out how long he has to repair everything before you serve him written notice.
