First, if you put this on your work PC I guarantee that you'll get fired. Your employer will also possibly file criminal charges against you, depending upon how much damage you do.

Limewire is peer to peer (P2P) software. This means that you share the files on your hard drive with others on the internet and copy information from their hard drives. There's no central server or central authority, so someone can take a child porn/snuff film, say it's Cinderella and share it with others. They can take a virus and say it's the latest Britney Spears single and infect millions of computers. Using Limewire, or any other P2P app to download commercial movies, music and software is illegal. If you're caught the minimum fine is $750.00 per file. If your office is audited and your business computer has illegal files, the maximum fine is $150,000.00 per file.

If you worked at my place of employment and installed Limewire, here's what would happen: You'd start downloading something, and within five minutes the network guys would see the traffic. They'd alert someone like me to go check and make sure that it wasn't a bad ethernet card or cable or something sending garbage traffic. Once it was established that an employee was using P2P software, Security would be called. You would be fired and your PC sent to the computer forensics team so they could see if you had done anything else illegal, or if any confidential data on the machine had been compromised. The lawyers would also be involved in case they needed to prosecute you, and the police might also be involved depending upon what the forensics team found.

Well, it all depends what youre gonna use it for. Limewire in a way its good but yes, it can bring virus. If you already have it, one thing that I would recommend for you to do, is that, as soon as a program, music file, pics and other stuff are finished downloading, right click on it and check for viruses. Thats what I do everytime. So far, I havent had any problems.

As far as Spyware/Viruses etc there are a lot on Limewire. There are many false searches which can be returned. But generally you would be able know if something was spyware etc. You can usually notice small files <1mb that are exe's. This is a good indication of bad files which you should stay away from.

Hope this helps.

limewire itself is very safe, even safer if you actually purchase the upgraded version.
you do have to be a little careful about what you download, don't just block select everything that appears, and you can use the search filters to get rid of a lot of the dodgy files anyway.
i recommend it, haven't had a problem and we've used it on three computers over the about seven years.

Anytime you use a program like limewire you are making your computer vulnerable to viruses. If you are running a good anti-virus, you should be ok.

However, downloading music that shouldn't be downloaded is piracy and yeah, it's illegal. There are tons of programs you can use to obtain music legally. I don't know what a "summat" is.

Had it for years without any problems. Don't bother buying the pro version, the basic is good enough. If you are under 18 or your children have access to your computer be aware there is a lot of 18+ content thrown up by the most innocent of searches. If you want Toy Story or whatever search Pixar or Disney for example, not Movies.

Limewire in itself is totally safe when downloaded from Limewire's site.

It's a whole different story when you download something with Limewire.

Well, LimeWire itself is supposedly spyware/virus free. I doubt it is spyware free.

I'd be more worried about the files you download being infected more so though.
