Yesterday i just got on the patch...and i read that is has been rated very unsafe due to blood clots and strokes...so is it safe to just take it off and switch to the pill immediately? The doctors say the patch is safe...but their have been lots of lawsuits...so im asking all women who know about this. Can i just go to the pill instead?

In April 2004, an 18-year-old woman who had been using a birth control patch suddenly died as a result of a pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in the lung). A lawsuit was filed over her death in December 2005. A July 2005 Associated Press (AP) analysis of adverse events reports filed with the FDA surrounding the patch said 17 patch users had suffered fatal heart attacks, blood clots and possible strokes since August 2002.

NuvaRing has health risks relating to blood clots in the legs and lungs, which may lead to embolisms, stroke or heart attack. The FDA forced a warning for birth control patches relating to a similar problem and several young women have died as a result of complications. The drug's warning section now notes that the these types of birth control expose women to higher levels of estrogen than most birth control pills.

Although I haven't really heard the best things about the patch the possibility of getting blood clots with the pill also exists. Especially if you smoke. If you do smoke, I would consider stopping. If you don't want to take the pill the NuvaRing has been good to me.

I would finish off the cycle on the patch, and then after your next period, start the pill.

I've heard not-so-great things about the patch. The pill, in my opinion, is much safer. If it's making you feel uncomfortable, you shouldn't use the patch anyways.

If you're scared about not remembering to take the pill and that's why you're using the patch, there are a few things you could do to remind yourself. What I do is have a reminder set on my cell phone everyday at the same time, and when it starts ringing, I know to take it.

I've never missed a day in over a year.

I have heard many things about the patch, and my doctor won't recommend it. I'm pretty sure it's okay to switch methods, but read the entire manual that comes with the patch. You may have to wait a week, then begin a cycle of the pill. I'm on Ortho-tricyclen Lo and love it. No weight gain, and it's a low-hormone pill, so mood effects are diminished.

all I know is that the patch has waaayyy more hormones than other birth control options (I'm on the ring and I love it) just go talk to your dr and tell them your concerns. Even if they say it's safe, if you feel uneasy about it you should get off of it. You need to feel confident in what you are on. You can switch to the pill.

well..i was on the pill...i kept forgetting to take them so my periods were all messed up after that..so i got switched to the shot...that made me all crazy and then i read all the side effects such as weight gain, osteoporosis and what not..and now im getting switched to the pill again but in a low hormone type. its all up to your doctor, they usually are there for your requests of a different birth control. im not sure if its safe just to switch right away. every birth control is going to have a serious side effect sadly.

Any hormonal birth control, including the pill carry the same risks. If you are under 35, don't smoke and do not have weight problems, it is unlikely you would experience any of these.

edit: Either way you are at risk. If you choose not to use birth control, you risk an unwanted pregnancy. If you want to minimize risk factors, use condoms, I do.

My advice to talk your doctor about medicine to find out what is side effect. Most medicine should tell you the warning sign. Most case, can't smoke, drive the vhelicle, Machinery, or anykinds, cause affect your health. Read the labels first before taking the medicine.

Yup, they totally do it for attention. It's not enough that they are squeezing a living, crying human being the size of a water melon out something the size of an acorn.

I think in my opinion that from what I have have seen for myself that the patch is not safe for a number of reasons is easy to forget about and also to fall off.

I dont have an answer about the safety of the patch, I only know when my daughter used it, it actually made her very ill and when she took it off, it took off her skin as well.
