I do know a good movie but it's the father who is the abuser/controller in the family who has teenage kids at home and it does focus on the effect it has on them and their mother. It's a new Zealand film called "Once Were Warriors"

Okay, for the record.. Heavenly Creatures is not even close to what you are looking for.. that is about matricide.. (the girls kill one of their mothers)
I think the movie Fear is perfect for what you are looking for. Another one which may work is Bully... it deals with a kid who beats on his best friend, but also ends up beating on a girl he starts seeing..
