Life is subject to change without any notice. Those of us whom are realistic realize that at the moment we may think we have chosen the correct path, but, our life has changes that will affect that path. This is why our parents taught us about the crossroads. I have changed my mind many of times and made different choices, and whether they are either good or bad, at present I think I made the best choice and taken the best path that fit the situation.
At times I make adjustments and I find myself on a different path to life which may affect everyone around me.
I love your question because it gives us all the opportunity to actually put some thought into our answer, which means we are now evaluating our decisions and trying to determine if we did in fact choose the correct path.
I think for those who were so quick to answer and only answered using one word, or one sentence or some biase answer, then we know that they are at their crossroad and have no clue what path to take, if any at all.
These are the people who cannot make up their minds, and depend on society to make it up for them. They may also be people whom just go with the flow. Going with the flow should only exist with the medium in our lifes and not the importance, the high risks of life.
I am now curious to sit back and watch how the philosophy in our life of thinking will affect the answers you'll receive from your question.
This will be something I will enjoy coming back to read often.

There is no "correct" path. There are many paths, and you alone can decide which way to go and go there.
Answer these:
How's it working? Are you happy, healthy, at peace, not living around losers? You have found a good path.
Do you enjoy your life, do you have challenges you can deal with, do you love someone? You have found a good path.
Are you sober, sensible, and playful? You have found a good path.
Are you forgiving, accepting, and courageous? Again.
Do you frighten people or use violence to get your way? Are alone? Bitter ? Bored to death? Anxious? Medicating yourself? Then you might not be on a good path for you!
If your are waiting for some flaming sword to come down a strike you from above, so you know god's will, dont' wait.
You have a certain set of vlaues, talents, disabilities, and a gut instinct to KNOW whether you want to do something. No one else can know you that well. Go do it.

I feel pretty good about my life so far -but did I choose the right path? I really don't know.
Since I can't do much about the past, I try to learn for it but not dwell on it. I only have some control on the present and I realize that I have a very limited effect on the future by what I do now.

Once you've chosen something...anything...a goal perhaps...you're on the correct path...YOU are the author of your destiny...NOT circumstances. If you keep focus on your goals, NOTHING that happens along the way can avoid you achieving them...you may be on the way to a meeting that will skyrocket your materialization of your goal but the bus may crash and you never make it to the meeting...you're in a long delay. If your faith and commitment to your goal is strong enough, you'd realize that the accident is a key element to your achievement of that goal. There'll be someone on that same bus who may be able to offer you something in the form of advice or information that will take you closer to the goal...you may see or hear something that is of great help...you just never know for certain...all you need to be certain about, is a CLEARLY DEFINED GOAL backed by passion...
When you have this, THEN and only then, are you on the right path in life.

The paths that you take, can be, a matter of luck, predetermined by your own actions or a burning desire to follow a certain course. I wanted to be a rock-n-roll musician; but my Dad said "It's about time you got a proper job". So I ended up as an optician. With hindsight I wish I had stayed with music. Good luck with your future, you never know what is around the corner.

Don't look back. Assess where you are now and set a goal for the future. Once you set a goal think if it's realistic. If not then you may need to modify your goal. Once you have set a realistic goal consider what options you have to reach that goal and then what actions you have to do to make it happen. Don't be afraid to discuss your situation with others; friend, parent, boss, counselor.

I think you have to look at your overall situation. There will always be things that you would like to change or maybe some things you wish you had done differently, but I guess the question is how satisfied you are with life in general.

because every time I have tried to choose another path, something invariably directs me back to the one I have been on all my life.
