Don't dry the gourds. I just picked the last of mine and have them soaking in a tub of water. They will need about a week, maybe more, for the skin to become soft. Once the outside is all slimy and soft, peel it, rinse well and shake out as many seeds as you can. Then get a tub of fresh water with some Clorox in it and soak for another day or two. This will sanitize them and make them look nice. Rinse well once again and let them air dry.

The only problem with picking immature loofah's is they will be a little thin and softer than the store bought sponges. I live in Michigan so I have quite a few immature gourds. They work allright but soften up quite a bit in the shower.

As for the pumpkins - I believe all of them can be eaten but not all should. They are winter squash and just like the squash, different varieties taste different. You might want to get the canned pumpkin, it is allways good and worth the few cents it costs.
