I got my friend one of those gift sets that has the piggy bank and a box for first tooth and first curl and some diapers. I need to get one more gift that won't cost over $10 that would go good with the gifts I already got her. It's her first baby.

Most everything costs under $10..
You can get some washcloths, baby essentials like powder, burp cloths, a cute little sleeper, some baby wipes.. the list goes on.
Just add some essentials and you'll be good to go.

I just saw the neatest idea for a baby shower gift. A "time capsule" for the baby's first year. This one costs about $23, but you could make one for a fraction of the cost. The parents write down or photograph memories of the baby's first year and put some small memorabilia of the times (like a quarter from 2007, an article from the paper from the baby's birthdate, etc) then the kid opens it when he/she is grown up. My town did a time capsule where my grandma had put a letter in it for me. She passed away when I was 12, but I got her letter when I was 25. It was the most wonderful gift I ever received.

Hi! I'm sure she would appreciate diapers (other than size Newborn). Buy Size 1 or Size 2.

A gift card to Wal-Mart, Target, Babies R Us, or where she is registered at for $10.

Wipes, bottle brushes, nail clippers, baby wash, lotion, etc.

I hope these help! Many of these items come in cute little gift sets as well! :o)

You could get a basket or small hamper to put all the gifts in. Some of my friends gave me a bunch of gifts in a nice white vinyl basket, I use it in my daughters room to put her dirty clothes in before the wash. It could also be used as a toy basket or to keep diapers or blankets or something too.

You could get some receiving blankets or swaddling blankets as well. You can never have enough of those. For a cute idea, you could use the receiving blankets to wrap the gifts by folding and tucking or gathered with an elastic at the top.

Oddly, I think one of the most unique things I got was a toddler's Bible. My husband is a seminary student and part of my pregnancy was when he was on internship. (As part of the program for the master's of divinity program, the students have to do an internship where they are in a church learning on the job, he was a student-pastor. In a sense, it was an internship for me, too, as I found my role as the pastor's wife.) The social group at church gave me a very nice shwoer and from that and other gifts from the congregation (I got multiple gifts from some people with whom I became friends). Of all of the nice practical gifts (including a couple of scrap books, and a school years scrap book from kindergarten through 12th grade), I didn't get a Bible. We thought the gift was unique and special enough that we gave a couple (friends of ours from school; our husbands are classmates) one as well. She also said that she hadn't gotten anything like that.

Since winter is coming, sleepers with no feet. My daughter is small, only 6.2 at birth and 7.4 a few weeks ago at her one-month checkup. Even though she has grown more, she is still too small for the sleepers with feet. She pulls her feet up in them as though she is just in a dress or a nightgown. Overall, she does have six things she can wear now at least . (Four long nightgowns, pants with a hoodie, and a sleeper with no feet which I got from my MIL. At the time I thought it was unnecessary, as she saw all of the clothes I got at the shower, but I learned how good it was since it didn't have the feet.)

If neither you nor your friend are opposed to second hand, try Goodwill for clothes as you can get more for your money.

The aforementioned friend gave me a memory box from Hallmark. I don't know how much it cost, but I'm guessing no more than $15. She also gave me a the piggy bank gift set you mentioned.

How about something for the mother? My mom gave me a set of body wash which is nice. Before the baby, I started to use bar soap (bars collected from hotels; I'm cheap) and decided to save my body wash for after the baby was born becuase using body wash takes less time. (I also saved all of my bottles of shampoo/conditioner because all I have to do is wet my hair once, apply once and rinse once. When my hair gets cut, it will take me only a half an hour to shower and dry my hair.)

Also, a friend gave me $25 for me. When I lose some baby weight I'm going to go to Goodwill and shop. Even if I pay full price there, I can get six items for the $25. However, I'm cheap, so I'll likely look at the 50 and 75% off colors first. (Even more likely the 75% off first.)

If you can only spare $10, buy the mom a gift card to a coffee shop, favorite restaurant, etc. When my daughter was maybe four weeks old, or only three, she was very content one Saturday and I was feeling cooped up. (In the past, I would be content to stay home, because that's who I am also, I had more freedom and choice to go out when I wanted to. I spent the first couple of months of my pregnancy, in February and March indoors. Plus, I was in Michigan, so it was cold anyway and being tired and nauseus, etc. I just felt more comfortable.) Anyway, my husband all but made me go out for dinner and shopping on my own. I went to a Mexican restaurant and spent only $9 with tip on dinner. Then I went to Wal-Mart where I just did some grocery shopping. I didn't think to look at other things. I was trying to hurry some.

Anyway, I hope this heps.

My favorite "extra" was gift cards for Babys R Us or Target. That way I was able to go pick up things that I needed & didn't receive.

Actually, there were a few people that gave us good size gift cards and we pooled them all together along with the little cards and got our stroller/car seat system and only had to pay a little bit.

When I had twins 5 years ago..one of the cutest gifts we received had the box (gift inside) wrapped up in a cute baby bath blanket--you could buy one under $10 and wrap the gift set in it. Really cute and saved on paper! (I think the "bow" was a washcloth.)

I'd suggest diapers, wipes, baby wash and/or lotion. The little one will go through a lot of those, and under the $10 mark.
