If you took hormone replacements you could also grow breasts and lactate.. what's your point?

Most fetuses become "male" gendered by bombardment with hormones during a period of development.

mens genes consist of xy, womens genes consist of xx. before zygotes become embyos, the sex of the baby has not been determined quite yet, it is froming all of the critical organs first such as the brain, heart and the beginings of lungs. since there is a higher cance of a baby being female, the dominant x gene takes it's place the y gene or x gene determines whtere or not testosterone or estergen is going to be your fututre hormone of dominance. if there is a high level of testosterone, you guessed it the embryo will change its course of development to develope its reproductive organs, if there are higher level of estragen, then obviously it has a higher cahnce of being female. which is also why you can find both estragen and testosterone in both men and women... thats why you have nipples.. yes, my brother asked the same question once and it is infact truth when people tell you that everyone starts off as a girl...... but you DO NOT have an infant feeding duct, if you did the mother of your child will love you because then you could take a turn feeding the child.. which is why you cannot.. you do not produce milk because you are not female, thats how your nipples differ from females...

Nature has a tendency to do things in the simplest possible way, and that means having as few changes as possible between men and women.

Although men technically have all of the biological machinery required to develop breasts and feed babies, it never develops because the presence of the Y chromosome prevents the right hormones from stimulating them at the right time.

In women, one X chromosome is inactive. This means that men have the exact same genetic material as women, with the addition of the extra genes on the Y chromosome. This means that *all* of the differences between men and women must occur because of genes coded on this one chromosome.

The short answer is that men have nipples because all of the genes present in women are also present in men.

(This was mostly copied from my answer on another thread - there have been two other askers who have posted the same question recently. Check their threads for more info.)

A male has the X chromosome in addition to the Y chromosome. A fetus without the X chromosome will soon die. The X chromosome has genes for many aspects of body development. Without testosterone, a male fetus will develop a female body, even though he has the Y chromosome. The nipples are part of the general body plan, and are developed before testosterone appears.

All feotus' start out as a female form ( check out the seam that runs from your bottom forward ) so everyone started out looking the same and after 14 weeks the sexual organs take shape.

So all feotus' start with nipples and when the Y chromosome indicates that the child is to be male is changes it growth pattern.

because we all start out at females.... and the presence of a Y chromosome causes men to develop male organs a few weeks into pregnancy. So, that is why in the simplest terms.

All babies in the womb are at first females they later change to male. that's why males have nipples.
