how to tell if wireless adapters bad?

hello i have a laptop that keeps losing the wireless connection and when i refresh available networks nothing shows up but if i unplug it or shut of the pc sometimes it will come back other times it wont . i dont think its my router cause when it acts up it doesnt show the neighbors connection either

Right-click on your WiFi Icon, down by the clock, and choose Disable. Then, Right-click on your WiFi Icon again and choose Enable.

Then, read your Router User Manual and check all your WiFi settings, and WPA in particular. Call your router tech support line if still stuck.
