Horror movie, late 70's. Guy buys a house and has his friends come help him clean and fix up. House turns out to be covering the entrance to Hell, door in the basement is held shut by a big cross. A couple of scenes to help jog the memory, windows and doors lock themselves shut, Guy hangs himself with a trick rope to scare everyone, guy tries to cut threw the wooden shutters with a saw and cuts his hand off, windows open just long enuff 4 1 guy to jump out then he gets sucked up by the ground out by the statue, Devil is a fat white guy in a white suit. Driving me crazy I can't remember the name of the movie.

...you are definitely talking about the tongue-in-cheek 1978 supernatural horror shocker, "The Evil"; the rather lethargic guy at the end, dressed in the white suit, and revealed to be none other than the devil himself, is none other than the late, great character actor, Mr. Victor Buono (...who also played the dastardly villain, King Tut, in the '60's 'Batman' series)...

I seem to remember a movie like that, but I'm not sure its the same one. The movie I'm thinking of i think was called the gate.
It is either the gate or one of the sequels
