Everyone is too busy hating on a player because of his talents to see that you are missing the opputunity to see the best stickhandler to ever play the game!

Crosby is a rare talent like non-other. And the "cry-baby stuff needs to stop. He played with a break in his foot last year, now what one of your teams players did that? He is tougher than Gretzky by a long shot, no one even dared to hit Gretzky because it was an unwritten rule.

If you hate him because he can single-handedly beat your favorite team then just say so, dont say that he cries when he is playing at a level that horrifies goalies. Gretzky and Lemieux were great but the things Crosby does with the puck they could not even dream of. He may not be scoring like Gretzky but seriously watch him play and you will see that he does things that NO ONE IN THE HISTORY OF HOCKEY could.

But dont pretend that you know the game of hockey and then try to dispute that Sidney Crosby is an amazing player, and maybe best ever!

First of all, I am a huge fan of Crosby's. I've seen all but 4 of his games at the NHL level (including playoffs). He's a great kid with a lot of maturity, and treates his elders with the respect they deserve.

Second of all................can you give an example of somethiing Crosby has done with the puck that Lemieux hasn't? He's a very good puckhandler but he's nowhere near the calibre of a Denis Savard, Mario Lemieux, and Steve Yzerman...NO WHERE.

Third, there was no unwritten rule that Gretzky couldn't be hit.....he came away from most games with welts and bruises galore. When he was hit, you had to deal with Semenko, Fogolin, Lumley, and Hunter. To quote Brad Marsh....."you can't hit what's there one second...and gone the next". Crosby has it no different. The other night several players hit him, and in ensuing shifts, those players were accosted by Armstrong, Roberts, and Gonchar (of all people). Crosby is just as well protected as Gretzky was. So, until someone provides a game where Gretzky didn't get hit, I'll continue to believe otherwise (as I have videotape of 1000+ Gretzky games where he did).

And let's get this straight. Crosby played with a 'hairline' fracture of his foot according to Dr's reports submitted to the NHLPA. Many many players have played with hairline fractures over the years.

As for tougher than Gretzky, not even close. Gretzky had more fights in his first two years than Crosby did (1 to 0). Gretzky played the last 800 games of his career in back pain (similar to Lemieux and Bossy)

As a 19 year old in a watered down NHL (by all accounts from people in the NHL, the Media, and participants in Yahoo! Answers) Crosby averaged just over 1.5 points per game.
As a 19 year old, Lemieux averaged 1.8 (2nd season) and Gretzky averaged 1.78. Both considerably higher, in a 'more competitive' NHL

There are some really strong points in the other answers, but some are definitely turned off by his over-exposure. Also, he did dive a lot at first and he cried to the refs a lot as well.

There is no doubt that he is a world class athlete, but when he does it for 10 years, you can call him the best ever and not before. Every hockey fan would be lying if they said that they wouldn't want him on their team, but let's not put him in the hall of fame already. Let's see how it plays out.

Also, where do you think that he learned most of the things that he can do with the puck? He learned it by watching other great players like Gretz and Super Mario. For you to say that he is the best ever is to spit on hockey history.

Sidney Crosby vs Wayne Gretzky ? Please!!! He holds or shares 61 NHL records!!! Crosby has done nothing. Not half the player Gretzsky was. Wayne Gretzky got hit all the time by the way... which resulted in bench clearing brawls. I remember Gretzky getting punched out once even. I found a nice movie for you to enjoy. Sidney Crosby??? LOL thats funny.

People are always going to have opinions. They are what they are, and everyone's entitled to their own. So let it go because it's not like anything anyone says takes anything away from Sidney Crosby's talent or accomplishments.

However, I don't understand why people dislike or hate Sidney Crosby for reason of all the hype around him... Um, did he ever come out and ask to be surrounded by hype? It's a byproduct. He deals with it. Personally. Actually, the people who resent him because of the attention must not factor in what it's like for him to always be under a microscope.

I just wanted to comment on the "no one ever hit Gretzky" rule...

1) That came later on, he earned his fame first...

2) Its not that people did not hit him, its that no one tried to injure him. He got checked all the time, but no one wanted to be the guy who ended the Great Ones career by giving him one too many concussions or damaging his knee or something... You can bet the same applies to Crosby to some extent. You end Crosby's career and you are going to be so hated, you will be forced to retire (Its hard to play with people throwing stuff at you)...

I still remember Ulf Samuellson as "That guy who ended Cam Neely's career".

Bobby Clarke will always be remembered badly for how he won Canada the Gold medal (intentionally injured the Russian goaltender).

Who's going to stop me from bashing Crosby? You? The courts can't even do that. Where'd you get this silly idea that people don't like Crosby because he sucks? He's got the hardware to tell his nay-sayers otherwise. We don't like him (hate is a strong word for me anyways) because he spent his first two seasons crying over nothing (except for that spear...that had to hurt). Personally, I haven't seen him do much crying this year. Others may have though.

And obviously you're emotionally biased towards Crosby. I can tell you haven't seen the way Gretzky and Lemieux play. Those two men have the greatest hockey minds thus far, something that even Crosby haven't demonstrated. He has only shown talent and skill. He is hardly a "rare talent" because he's in the same company as Ovechkin, Toews, Kane, Malkin, Semin...am I leaving anyone else out? Those guys can hold a candle to Crosby.

I'm not disputing that Crosby isn't a great player. I'm disputing your emotional and biased "logic" in your statement.

I don't hate him at all. I think he's an amazing player. Do I think that, at some point, he'll be considered the greatest player ever? Yeah, there's a good chance.

Is he tougher than Gretzky? Probably, and he also has to deal with getting hit much more than Gretzky ever did.

The only problem I have with your entire question is that you call him the "best stickhandler to ever play the game." He may eventually be the best player to ever play the game, but right now I don't think you could even call him the best active stickhandler in the NHL.

Sidney Crosby may be ONE of the best stickhandlers, but even considering only active players, I don't know that I would say he's a better stickhandler than each of Alex Kovalev, Pavel Datsyuk (and I can't stand the Red Wings), and Alexander Ovechkin.

I think most people respect it but don't want to admit it because he doesn't play for their team. If people can't see his talents than they really have no understanding of the game. They are just blinded by their loyalty to their club or they are just ignorant.

Will he be the "greatest ever". Only time will tell.

Labeling some one the greatest is too subjective. The game is different today that 10, 20, 30 etc. years ago. People in the younger generation never had a chance to watch the Bobby Orr's and Gordie Howes of the world first hand so how can there be a real comparison. Maybe a better way is to say he has the potential and opportunity to be the best of his generation because 50 years from now when there are new NHL fans and people who never had a chance to see Sid play, how will they truly be able to compare Sid to Wayne to Gordie to their top dog???

I don't "hate" Crosby. As a matter of fact, as much as I try to hate him (I'm a Devils fan), I just can't. He's talented, humble, and not in the least bit selfish (his mountains of assists show that). Sure, he did complain a lot last season, but he was just getting used to having the biggest target on him in the league.

Honestly, just quit whining if some people are jealous of Crosby. Just sit back and enjoy having the next Great One on your favorite team.

Funny, I'm not a particular fan of his but I don't hate Crosby at all... Great player, great talent... but so what? Hockey is a TEAM game, and no single player is greater than the team. No single player is greater than the game. Crosby may be the best player in the game but the Penguins are certainly not the best team.

The NHL pushes guys like Ovechkin and Crosby on us like the NBA does Anthony, James, and Bryant... and personally I think that's wrong. I don't want the NHL to showcase the stars - I want them to showcase the game... from Crosby, Ovechkin, and Thornton right down to Regehr, Prucha, and Moen.

PS: Scott Niedermayer played with a banged up foot from before the January through June. Players play through injuries like that ALL the time.
