If you understand why the meat is white or dark, you'd have a better understanding of where you'd find it.
Dark meat is usually from muscle which tires slowly and is used for continuous movement usually - e.g., the muscle in your legs, thighs, and arms, and thus has a rich blood supply to keep the level of oxygen getting to the muscle at a high level.
White meat is usually from muscle that uses more anaerobic respiration and therefore does not have a lot of blood vessels associated with it. These muscles tire quickly and are usually used for quick bursts of speed (in chickens, the breast meat, which powers the wings - in fish, usually the muscle right at the base of the tail, and a line of muscle extending along the backbone). White muscle is also know as fast-twitch, dark as slow-twitch.

I'm not a Betty Crocker, but I think the white meat comes from the breast, and dark meat comes from the wings. Actually, I've never really seen much meat on a wing so I can't understand why people love them so much.

excellent answer from nixity, and for cherry pie - it's not the meat on the wing, it's the breading and seasoning that people like about wings. Well, that and the beer and the fact that you can eat a whole lot of them without feeling full (other than full of beer).

For poultry (chicken, turkey, etc.) - breasts and wings are white meat, thighs and legs are dark meat. I dont' know of any other animals that have a distinction between white and dark.
