He was instrumental in getting Egypt and Israel to stop fighting with each other. His assisting that effort has kept Israel from fighting any largescale wars like it did in 1967 and 1973. He accomplished alot more towards peace over there than bush has.

Most of the problems we are facing right now actually stem from the Carter Administration and he knows that. I think he's trying to dump the blame on Bush just like many of the moveon mob. Let's look at some facts:
1. If Carter had initiated a "Manhattan Project" type alternate fuel source program back in his time when the first gas crisis occurred, imagine how independent we'd be now of foreign oil!
2. If Carter had dealt with Iran more firmly instead of letting them walk all over him, there'd be less bravado from the likes of them... but showing weakness and fear only makes those kinds of lunatics stronger.
3. If Carter had spent more time actually trying to resolve the crisis in the Middle East instead of trying to use it as a photo op... there may have been more strides made (and maybe not, but we'll never know now, will we?) towards a peaceful solution of the Palestinian issue.
Realize that Carter is as worried about his 'legacy' as Clinton is... and that concern prompted Clinton to have documents stolen from the National Archives and to try to bury the fact that Sudan offered to hand him bin Laden twice. Imagine what Jimmy's willing to do to pin the entire Middle East crisis on Bush...
now... should he shut up? probably... he's embarrassing himself and carrying on in a way unbefitting a former President.
should he be shut up?
no. America is built on the right to express yourself, even if you're wrong.
EDIT ~ I can't believe it, I'm agreeing with people on this question I don't think I've ever agreed with before LOL!
thanks for the thumbs down, though... tells me I hit a nerve

President Carter is in the position and has the guts to talk truth to power.
Why don't you try reading his books instead of listening to sound bites and elevated hatchling smearing him.
I hold little hope that most of you would bother to research what has actually been going on since Nixon's impeachment.
But, in case you are interested;

Bryan,
You are a good hatchling. Accuse the only president who actually aggressively attempted to deal with the energy crisis of being responsible for the problem.
You are literally a moron. But I defend your right to be a moron and demonstrate it with your 1st Amendment rights.

No. Check the objective history and he accomplished a lot in the middle east towards peace. So far Bush has nothing but war to show for in the middle east, he and Cheney may not be done yet.

As a private citizen, in fact as a citizen period, he is entitled to his first amendment rights the same as you and I. Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't mean they should shut up. If you have an argument for what he says than publish it. Make noise but don't be a coward and simply whine about those you disagree with and wish them gone or silent.
Democracy thrives on dissent and difference of opinion. Totalitarianism thrives on strict obedience and agreement.

President Carter has the right to speak on whatever he wishes, and should be honored like one would honor a grandmother at Thanksgiving dinner. 'Yes, Grandma, I agree with what you said.' Whether you actually agree or not, it irrelevant. The position of President of the United States should be held high. Especially after they're out of office.

You are not a Democrat. There is NO administration that is even close to being worse than George Dubya's. None. Carter has every right to speak. He makes sense and should be listened too. I guess you would rather listen to fake FEMA press conferences.

OK, the trouble with this is that Carter, like all the others with opinions is an American and has every right to voice his opinion. That is all it is, an opinion, just like mine, yours, and all those conservatives and liberals who have strong ideals that fit their stance.
No, he should not shut up... one can always turn off the television, and not read the articles...

No, actually, he most certainly should NOT "shut up."
His administration was far and away better than bush's and if anyone would READ about his term as President instead of spitting out talking points, they'd know as much.
You should read "The Blood of Abraham" by President Carter. He knows more in his little pinky about Foreign Policy than bush ever will!

Carter is one of the most knowledgeable, thoughtful, influential and intelligent human beings on the planet, especially when it comes to foreign political issues. It is the right of every American to speak out. In his case, it is actually based on honest, intelligent assessments.
