I live alone and don't do much wash. It seems it I went to the laundromat I would use their water, their heating of the water and their electricity to dry ??? How does one mathematically see that it costs more to use the laundromat or do people just think it costs more ? I am close to it and drive an economical car ???

The laundromat at your parents house may be free to you, but not to them !!

the laundromats stay in business partly for the people who don't have access to their own washers and dryers so maybe it isn't cheaper just a "have to ?"

At the laundromat, it costs $1 to wash and at least $1 to dry. That's 2 bucks per load.
At home...
Cost of Water: $0.50 (20 gal wash/20gal rinse), includes sewage
Cost of Electricity: Washer: Maybe 5 cents
Dryer: $1.00 at the absolute most.... will probably be less.
Wear and tear on washer and dryer: $0.40/load
So yeah, the cost is very close, maybe slightly more to do your laundry at home... and this does not count transportation costs.
BUT you are not factoring in for your time...
For me, I am not going to spend 2 hours of my life every week at a dirty laundromat. If I worked during those hours, I would make 60 bucks.... so although the cost per load might be SLIGHTLY higher at home... it's well worth the few extra pennies to be able to do other house work, work on the computer, watch TV, sit on my couch (in air conditioning), eat dinner, or do whatever else I need to do.
So people dont just think it costs more... its a huge pain in the butt to wash clothes at the laundromat.

I used to enjoy going to the laundry mat when I was single or it was just me and my husband.. It was really close to the house, it was clean and neat and the attendant was very, very nice.. I would go either early/late and use acouple machine's at a time. Or spend a little extra and use the double/triple capacity machine's I think it was more cost effective/cheaper than having my own washer/dryer. However, when I got married and was working full time and when I had children it is much easier to have an at home washer/dryer that I can use when I want. I would spend about $10 a week prior to having children just for me and my husband's clothing. It would take about an 1 1/2 to do all our laundry for the week. Now I wash about 4-8 loads a week and it takes about 4-5 hours or more. I'm glad to have a washer/dryer.. !!

u mentioned that u have a small retirement income so, is it safe to say that u don't have the space nor the income to invest in ur own washer and dryer. they make those stackable kind that saves space as well as they have a lot that are energy efficient. I've gone to the laundromat and I don't see how it's cost efficient at all. It's expensive and all I was cleaning was a king size comforter which wouldn't fit in our washer. WE bought some 2nd hand washer/dryer from this guy who rebuilds them and it's lasted a very long time.
I can see how the conveinence of the laudromat would be in people like urself's favor but if you add up all the costs u'd b better off investing in ur own. at least u'd b in the comfort of ur own home. Some apt. bldgs. have facilities on their property not sure of ur set up.
I think they're more expensive and more of a hassle than what they're worth. hope this helped.

You're also paying their rent, cleaning, and staffing costs. Their electricity not just for the machines you use but for their lighting, etc., and all their other utilities.
You're also paying more because the laundromat is a business and therefore makes a profit--thus they charge you more than it costs to run the place.
If you don't do much laundry, however, it might not be worth it for you to buy your own machines, if you don't mind the inconvenience of having to go to the laundromat.

The laundromat near my house charges $2.50 per machine -- and they're tiny machines, so I have to use at least two of each to get a single load done. The laundry room in my dorm charges $.75 for machines of the same size (well, the dryers are slightly bigger but they never get my clothes dry on the first run). The machines at my parents' house are free, and much bigger than either of the other places, so it costs less *and* I'm using less water and electricity because I can do my whole load in one shot.

regrettably, if your husband won't take a stand or a minimum of stand at the back of you once you're saying "no," then there is not any longer plenty you're able to do. So if it is sufficient of a topic which you won't be in a position to take it from now on, then you would desire to make it sparkling that issues are heading in direction of a snapping factor. working a unfastened mattress-and-breakfast became no longer area of your marriage vows (and if it were, i'm guessing you have gotten hesitated somewhat greater until now asserting "I do"), so the two your husband helps his acquaintances take some late steps in direction of independence via charging marketplace value to your amenities in the event that they plan to adhere around long-term, or you pass take the youngsters and your valuables and stay with a gal chum for some weeks until he realizes the genuine value of consistently enjoying host.

Well figure water & gas & power bill
each one it cost a lot
So they price machine according to the # of people who use the laundromat. Don't forget the liquior make a killing off of over price laundry detergents especially a small bottle of fabric softener.

First thoughts:
I am so happy to receive my product on the 2nd expect delivery date since got change on the internet UPS website but was home the 1st time to be delivery to my house on Oct 1, 2007.
Wonder Wash was packed very well since it comes from New City to Los Angels County
The size of product was bigger than expect since the picture on as seen on TV didn’t enlarge. It’s a great product to save money from paying so much at the laundry mat every week 10 bucks total. I wanted to try it out right away for test around since I test everything I buy or back from where came from for refund.
It great for t-shirt, sock and underwear
Use ¼ laundry detergent
2 Gallons of water
Cold or Hot Water
Add fabric softener if you air dry
Negative Parts of Product:
The bucket is made out of plastic it looks enough to hold I should say 2 gallons. It does small loads. So you can fit 2 pair of jeans at most at one time. You must keep the machine on balance or it fail when it spins counter clock wise it pause then agitates the clothes. There is no rinse cycle so you will need a large bucket and use fabric softener to prevent stiff clothes. Air dry and you have clean clothes. Do the math if you pay 15 week at laundry mat xxx 4 weeks – 55 in month. You save greatly just have do a little math work

You ARE using their water, and electricity, and possibly gas for the heating in the dryers. You are also paying for wear and tear on their machines (cause they DO break down on occasion), as well as paying their employees, rent or mortgage payments, and insurance.

It costs more. The coin laundry is a business. And the purpose of any business is to make money. If they were'nt making a profit, they could'nt stay in business.
