Is it because they wish for the population that listens, like demagogues from the 30's did in Europe, to imagine them as the experts on...economics, environmental science, military history, political history, world foreign affairs, government spending patterns, industry, world industry, immigration patterns, psychology...and on and on and on....

Because their listeners don't demand it. The audience wants people that have loud and bombastic opinions but not compromising people who will listen to opposing views before making a rash assesment or judgement. They want people drunk with their own personal views.... not sober, reasonable people (their hosts aren't so why would their guests be).
BTW, I am a conservative (socially liberal and fiscal conservative) that leans to moderate. I am entertained by Rush and somewhat amused by Hannity (he's a joke to me, someone that can't be taken seriously since he is so over the top and really misinformed)... but I certainly won't listen to them everyday or even once a month. They're so in-your-face and just ranting pep rallies that I am not all that interested... I'd rather see the game and leave the rallies to the kids.

What uninformed drivel. Not only is it obvious that you don't listen to any of these folks since if you did you'd realize that most frequently have guests and experts. Rush doesn't, but then, he's got an incredible research staff to provide him with verifiable facts and perspectives that you won't find anywhere else.
The other thing that is obvious is that you don't seem to realize the fact that these folks are not 'media'. They're not intended to be news. Their whole purpose is to present the conservative side of the issues. You want to present the 'progressive' side? Fine, go forth and do that, but many have tried and as a result of their 'experts' they've gone bankrupt and are supported by government subsidies. Hey, here's an idea. Why don't the Randi Rhodes, etc have some experts on different topics? That might help their ratings.

I have trouble listening without wanting to break my radio/TV. Any well informed person can clearly see that these nincompoops selectively cull data. They also select various "experts" who just happen to agree with them, no matter how fringe and marginalized their viewpoint.
Add: I listen to Rush, Hannity, Medved, Beck all the time. Difference is, thats not *all* I listen to. I also know how to read. These people are utterly full of crap but its grandiose entertainment just to see how stupid and brainwashed their cult of listeners must be to buy into it.

I listened to Rush back in the mid-90s for about three weeks (slow learner I suppose). What I learned is that while he did infact speak the truth, he was like a broken record. It got old very quickly. Why bring on so-called experts when you can pay a staff to scrounge through new paper clippings? Trusting that the press has actually done their job, they've already done the homework for you. Personally, I like Dennis Miller. Something to do with actually having to think and everyone is fair game.

Wow... someone obviously doesn't listen.
I don't listen to Rush much... here and there...I'm typically not around when it's on.
But I DO listen to Hannity... and he has experts on all the time.
If you tuned in, you could possibly learn something... but be careful, because the mainstream media and the moveon.org Liberals don't want you to... because then you might start to think and challenge the picture they're presenting to you of Talk Radio as Hate Radio.
I find that hilarious hypocrisy since there can be no more hateful people out there than Howard Dean's Insane Clown Posse of Democratic Leadership!

They do, like Rush had Dr. Roy W. Spencer the chief climatologist for NASA who refuted the expertise of Al Gore on Global warming.
Hannity just had an economist on his show not long ago. You cannot be an occasional listener to know everything that is going on. Like Cmdrbnd0 stated Rush seldom has guests, I believe his last guest to be Assistant Justice Clarence Thomas. However, he does site (where authority is needed) where you may be able to find his sources.

Obviously you don't listen to these shows. Hannity and Rush both have guests or experts on various topics. Rush had someone on from NASA to discuss the whole issue of global warming. Hannity has guests that are from both the democratic and republican party and they debate on his talk show as well as on his TV show.

Because, if they disagree with these people, they'll just turn their volume down and talk over them. They don't know the basic rules of courtesy. Such is the evils of self-centered politics. The "me" generation has found it's ultimate voice in neoconservatism. The attack on Christmas has been going on since these people started attacking Christ's dictates.

If you actually listened and did so with an open mind you would learn that neither is a demagogue as you claim. And Hannity does have experts on. Of course being an expert on the things you mentioned comes down to opinion no matter what. It isnt like math where 4+4 = 8 and that is it.

First of all if they had so called experts those experts would have to agree in total with those loud mouth hate mongers otherwise they wouldn't get a word in edgwise and be ridiculed.
