I concur with Jolly Roger. I believe that people should have the right to do as they please so long as their choices do not interfere with the abilities of others to live at peace and free from harm. In my opinion, the arguments against polygamy don't "hold water". I've heard it said that it promotes infidelity. This makes no sense. Just as people are capable of remaining loyal to one person, they can be loyal to more than one person. Likewise, I've heard it argued that polygamy increases the spread of STDs. This doesn't make any sense either. Polygamy isn't the equivalent of promiscuity. Some folks claim that it has a harmful affect upon the children of such families. Where is the evidence to prove such a claim? There is absolutely no logical reason for not permitting individuals to take more than one spouse. People need to open their hearts and minds and stop expecting others to live according to their values rather than their own.

I think that running a polygamous household in a kind and fair manner is a difficult proposition and beyond the skills of most men (and women). Although the government should have no say in it, I would discourage it for most people.

OTOH, there are times and places and people for which polygamy is necessary and/or ideal. It could help alleviate a some serious problems such as children growing up without fathers and the financial burden of today's living and childcare expenses.

It really does take exceptional personalities in both men and women to make it work. If you have what it takes, it can be worth the trouble. If you don't have what it takes, then you should run away as far and as fast as you can go!

It should be a personal choice and not regulated by law. People should be able to marry other humans in the way that works for them i.e. multiple wives or husbands, same sex or traditionally. The only thing the civil law should be concerned with is division of property for divorces and death and taxes.

I think what happens between consenting adults is between consenting adults.

Notice I said the words Consenting & Adults.

Now that marrying off children & forcing women to marry whom they do not want, they should be killed horribly for that.
