A lot of good friends of mine are finding themselves in rather unfortunate circumstances and it's struck me that after watching the news recently 55% of jobs created are in the hands of foreigners, this can't be right, surely?

My wife and I have always worked but over the years we've noticed more and more discrmination in our workplace for example people seem to think that because I'm a certain age I can't do the job as well as them!!??

Do you think we're lied to when it comes to the unemployment figures, I simply can't believe there's only 950,000 unemployed what about the other coutless millions that are forgotten and languishing on sickness benefits?

Seems so difficult for our young people to get work these days and a lot of them in my street say there's so much red tape that they're actually better off on benefits surely this is wrong?

Anything you want to say on this subject is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

* I just recently joined the ranks of the unemployed in Michigan! I have filled out over two dozen applications and made dozens of calls! There are not even any entry level jobs available!

I agree that the figures are not correct.
My college professor had stated that the numbers
do not include people who have been unemployed over 1 year, they list them as not activly seeking work and not
technicly unemployed.

As far as your age - personally i dont think it is a matter
of you cant do the job - but more a matter of i have to pay you more for your expirence to do the job - i could be a younger
person less and blame his lack of expirence.

For the young people - i do feel sorry for them - with all the downsizing and outsourcing the job force is flooded with
expirenced people willing to take a lower scale job or entry
level job just to survive - not leaving any room for the graduating class.

Those unemployment figures are deceiving. They don't say anything about underemployed or underpaid. They don't say anything about guys who have had to take drastic cuts in pay just to stay working. And about age discrimination is so true. I'm only 44 but am finding it very hard to find decent employment. I've had to settle for a job scrubbing floors at a hospital just so I could pay my bills. there are alot of guys like me out there too. And health insurance is a joke. All of this outsourcing jobs to overseas labor is finally catching up to the public. look at the forclosures on homes and you'll see the real direction our economy is heading. I never pay attention to stock markets. The only reason that's doing so good is due to overseas investing and the weakening of the American dollar. Yes, I could go on and on about this. But I'll end my little rant here...LOL. Have a good day.

I was unemployed for 18 months after be downsized out of a VP job. I had to reduce my expectation and accept a position with a lower salary and responsibilities. I would recommend that anyone who can afford to, go back to school while they are drawing unemployment. A graduate degree or certifications can help a great deal.

That may the only figures that are reported but I'm sure that they are more unemployed people myself.
As for the outsourcing, i believe that figure if not higher.
Corporations are very greedy and cheap and the more money in the execs pockets and less in the employees is what they live by.
We need some regulations on this.

all and sundry will undergo in recommendations the unemployed 99ers if those human beings vote! some conservatives think of of the 99ers are powerless, in spite of the undeniable fact that the vote is the main helpful rigidity in political existence. would you somewhat have ninety 9% of the vote, or a million%? fairly consumer-friendly selection fairly! President Obama is paying pastime to the 99ers. The GOP nominee, whoever he or she is, would perhaps be clever to do the same.

because of various things, i dont think there is any hope
employers will always take on younger staff now due to the differences in minimum wage, and the statistics from lately about the number of immigrant workers is very harsh reading indeed
we havent been GREAT britain for a long time

As of October 2006 the Government passed anti-age discrimination legislation so gives employees that right to work beyond pension age.

So you should be safe, on that front.
