Why might you be hesitant to store a ton of ammonium nitrate in your basement at the request of an acquaintance?

Because the stuff is chemically active, and could contaminate your house.

Because you have small kids and pets that might get into it.

Because you haven't had the time to call the police yet and ask if it's OK to do this. (Bet THAT one gives your friends the willies!)

Because you don't have room.

I'm sure the FBI and ATF would love to know your storing it for a friend. That is what is used to make explosives.
