it's a toss up between westerns and horror. Horror that's scary is good, but horror that's just all slasher stuff (like Saw) is just stupid. And here's the plot to every western: The bad guys jump on their horses, the good guys jump on their horses, they ride through the desert and they shoot at each other. The bad guys are all BAD shots and miss, the good guys take out 6 men with a single bullet.

I LOVE scary (horror) movies and comedies :)
I'm not really a big fan of those sappy romance/drama movies though. It'll never happen to me (or anyone for that matter), and I get enough drama daily. In fact, I've got to go and deal with 2 people who are suicidal, a group of drugees, and a breakup in a few minutes. >=(

like - fantasy (is it a genre?), i.e. Harry Potter, LOTR, Narnia, Labyrinth, etc... (but I don't really care for "drama" fantasy like Pan's Labyrinth).
dislike - even though I like horror, I'm not a big fan of this new "shock" horror genre (saw series, devil's rejects, etc...), which appear to be more about shock than horror itself. It makes sense I guess since people can still get shocked from torture and rape scenes, but not shocked from a big guy in a costume chasing people. But I still don't care for it - guess I don't like watching torture or rape scenes.
Update: I've noticed a lot of answers, mine included, are getting thumbs downs. LOL! What loser actually gives thumbs down to posts that state their favorite genre? What an idiot. :-)

I like smart movies, whether they are comedy, suspense, detectives, satire or thriller. I like action and martial arts movies, even when they're not smart - it's fun escapism. Also, it used to be the only thing that my boyfriend and I agreed on (he said I only watched depressing art movies, and I said he only watched movies about rockets). I only like romance if it is bittersweet (eg: Lost in Translation).
I hate movies that treat me like an idiot. So I refuse to watch teen movies, horror (except classics like Hitchcock), weepy chick-flicks, porn or bad dialogue. If you want to make me happy or sad or scared, stimulate my mind, not just my eyes. I've never been a huge fan of westerns (except for The Sting), but my dad says I just don't understand them;p

I like a good drama or horror movie. I dislike comedies - just because most of them are just stupid funny...
