1) The 9/11 terrorists did NOT come across the border illegally. They applied for and were granted visas to enter the country.

2) Since 9/11, terrorist have tried to enter the country from Canada, not Mexico where they are trying to secure the border more.

3) The U.S./Canadian border is the longest in the world (over 4000 miles). How do you propose securing that border?

**Edit: How do you propose we pay for all this extra security? Should the troops only mission for this country from now on be to patrol the boarders? How do you identify terrorist from the illegals entering the country? How do you prevent terrorists from legally entering the country, such as how they did before 9/11? How do you prevent them from attacking U.S. properties and citizens overseas?

Because the terrorist did not sneak across the border, the dummies that attacked us on 9-11 were here LEGALLY. The borders are not the problem. Mexicans did not attack us on 9-11. People from our suppose friends Saudi Arabia attacked our nation.

The problem is not in the borders the problem is our so called friends

No we are not saying that they could not come though our borders what we are saying is that there are more pressing problems. Saudi Arabia is a terrorist state and we are deep in bed with them. If we want to fight terrorism then we need to keep our priorities straight. The borders have never been seen to be a concern, there is no EVIDENCE that terrorist are coming across that way. There is evidence that there are terrorist in Saudi. So why not do what we need to do first.

You could put every soldier serving in Iraq along America's border and coast line and it would still not be secured from a determined enemy. This is particularly true when the nature of this enemy is such that he can fly into any international airport in the country. Terrorists don't announce themselves and those that our enemies send will not have histories or records.

Fencing in America will accomplish nothing. Only the vigilance of the American PEOPLE will help to keep America safe. No government, democrat or republican, can change this fact. And really, is that so much to ask? When did we, the people, decide that we had no role in the defense of our nation and our communities? Do you really expect your government to be everywhere? Lord, I hope not!

The whole war in Iraq is about getting control of and securing a future source of oil. The terror agenda is key in making the American people feel like they had to invade Iraq to save them from being attacked. Do you really think by invading Iraq you stop terrorists? What about the ones in Libya, Sudan and Saudi Arabia? Our borders are porous with Mexico and somewhat with Canada.
More than likely the powers that be knew about 911. The horror had to happen to incite Americans into terror and to bring up the patriotism factor. We have thousand of containers coming into ports and only a fraction are being inspected. Homeland Security is a big farce.

Agreed. It makes no sense. The terrorists can just walk into our country across the border. It's ridiculous.

And the first poster is correct, there are some National Guard troops along the border, but clearly not enough of them given the number of illegals that still get through.

Our borders could be secured in a matter of months with the proper leadership. We could also be way forward in being energy independent with proper leadership. We could be making real plans to deal with climate change if we had real leadership and we could have universal HEALTH INSURANCE as well. In real life, at this point, only a Republican administration could accomplish these things....if a democrat attempted any of the above the right wing swift boat fleet would be on the case with guns blazing. This is where Bush could have made himself the 'great president' that he fancies himself to be. He could have led...instead he stayed in his comfort zone and allowed himself to be a stooge for the 'new' conservatives....those 'true believers' in massive trans-national corporate power, the cause of the Oil Mafia godfathers who insist on an 'oil only' energy policy and the retro nonsense of the Jesus freak right. We've had imperfect presidents, but let's be real...Harry Truman was a racist that intergrated the armed forces because it was the right thing to do. Eisenhower raised gas taxes to build the National Defense Highway System....the interstates. Richard Nixon set up the Environmental Protection Agency. But Bush? zip, and now the Republican movers and shakers want to elect another loser that will do their criminal bidding...meanwhile leaving poor 'ol George twisting slowly in the wind...used, abused and left for the buzzards!

The 9/11 hijackers' presence was not a product of porous borders. They came over on student visas.

Not that I don't support documenting everyone in our country. I just think "walls...etc" are a huge waste of money.

Who cry to high heaven when we did put troops on our boarder?

Who complain when people watching the boarder?

Guess what the last round of terrrorists came across which boarder now? Canada

How many terrorist attacks we have sense 9/11?

Republicans want to secure the boarders but the good old DNC wants them open.

So you decide.

this is stressful to think of that when the events of 9/eleven, we've an expected 10+ million extraterrestrial beings for the duration of this united states that are no longer documented - we don't understand who they're, the place they're or maybe what share there are. this is the effect of u . s . turning a blind eye to rules that are already on the books, in spite of the undeniable fact that, there seems to be no relation to this subject and the events of 9/eleven. fact learn - we can't "terror evidence" our united states. it may be just about impossible to furnish one hundred% helpful border protection around the north and south - no longer to show from the seashores. the sorrowful certainty is that if a terrorist desires to go into this united states - there are just about a countless form of approaches he ought to, and it in simple terms does not make certainly one of those experience to spend billions of greenbacks just to make it a splash greater durable for him.

Actually, we do have the National Guard at the U.S./Mexico border, helping with transport, training, and giving other support to those working along the border.
