I need to turn a song into a monologue for my theatre class and I have no idea what to do. It can't be too repetative and has to be at least a minute long while speaking it.

Thanks for your help!

Toms Dinner - Susan Vega (In fact any of her work)

Most American folk songs:

The wreck of the old 97
Richmond is a hard road to travel.
Woodstock (at a push) (Again, like Susan Vega, most of Joni Mitchells work).
The battle of New Orleans

You might come a little bit more up to date with M and M, since most of his work will tell a story. Stan is a point in fact.

Most rap songs, that are not into the great "I am" will tell a viable story "Gin and Juice" is another example.

Hope this helps.

Luck

The Decemberists have several songs that would be perfect for this. I recommend "The Mariner's Revenge" or "The Sporting Life"

You can find their lyrics here: http://www.azlyrics.com/d/decemberists.html

"Hang Down Your Head, Tom Dooley"

An oldie but a good story.

Also, try "Mack the Knife." Also an oldie but good story.
