I live in Florida but I am getting married in San Franciso, California. Do I need to get my marriage license in California?

Yes, you need a license from the State you get married in. In Florida, it doesn't matter if you go out of the county you got it in, but it's only good for getting married by a Florida official in Florida.

We got married on a riverboat on the Colorado between Arizona and Nevada... but the official, the captain, was only empowered to perform Arizona-recognized marriages, so we had to get the Arizona license. Where you are is what counts, not where you live.

It was fun filing for the license, we got a little "starter kit" of products to go with it -- tiny packet of napkins, single-load box of laundry detergent, sampler pack of trash bags, and so forth.

Wherever you get married, whereever you go, you're married.
