You asked for it, so here it is:
In order for you to find the truth you have to have been told a lie. I was raised believing that good people go to heaven. When my Grandmother died I knew for sure she would go there, we were very close and if anyone deserved to be there I was certain she did. After her death I felt a big black void in my life. I did not feel her presense nor did I sense that she was "watching over me". She was gone and that's all there was to it. I was raised Catholic and called 3 of their churches searching for the truth, my church, her church and a random church. What made matters worse is that I had lost my only 4 relatives, Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt and Uncle within 4 weeks. I told the priests that the foundation of my faith was shaken, I was crying hysterically, but not one of them would give me any time or answers, one had the nerve to say "if you can get here in 5 minutes I can give you 10". What nerve, for goodness sake, my whole family had just died! I hung up and vowed to myself that I would never step foot in a Catholic church again. How could they have God's backing if they couldn't even offer comfort for the depressed and grieving? For two years I prayed to God, "where is my Grandmother?" Finally one day 2 women knocked on my door, yes they were Jehovah's WItnesses. They asked me if I thought the Bible was capable of answering any questions concerning life and death? I asked, can it tell me where my Grandmother and my other relatives are? They opened to the book of Ecclesiastes and read from chapter 9 verses 5 and 6 "For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun." and then verse 10 "All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in She′ol, the place to which you are going."
There I had it, the TRUTH. My Grandmother, Grandfather, Aunt and Uncle were simply dead, no pain, no suffering, no work, nothing. I went in immediately and called the churches and told those priest that I had found the answer to my questions and scolded them for the lies they had taught me for 30 years. I have been one of Jehovah's Witnesses for 17 years now.
I hope that answers "your" question.

Why did you waste 5 points on a pointless question?
No one knows the truth.

truth is a phenomenogical construct (individual)....that is contingent upon the zietgiest (social climate) and development of the individual....
this thing called truth is always in flux.... your personal truth shifted from when you were 8 yrs old to 28...and same with 48.
we build our lives around this phenomena we call truth...and create meaning ..... albeit skewed and imperfect

it looked like enough people answered it - your question was how did YOU find the truth - that is going to be depended on the person answering - therefore no right/wrong/or fully answer

I hadn't seen it.
HOWEVER
You have several very full answers there.
Just because it may not answer it to your own view of things doesn't mean the answerers haven't answered fully to their own point of view.
After all, the questions is "how did YOU", not "how did I"
